I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a thousand times. This man is one of the most slept-on and underrated MC’s in the game right now! From his various features this year to the previous record I covered, he’s always been on point, and I don’t feel enough people recognise him, so I’m here to give him his flowers while he’s killing it!
This is the latest album by MC powerhouse Shottie alongside producer Tev95, and together they dropped 12 brand-new tracks featuring the likes of
-Grafh
-André DeSaint
-Asun Eastwood
-Vic Spencer
-Money Mogly
And I gotta say, I didn’t know what to expect going into this, but as the production goes, the vibes are classical as fuck! I hear a lot of jazz, orchestral, and old-school music attached to this project that gives this record a more ‘refined’ feel to it!
I love how there are such things as delicate piano keys, thudding drum patterns, theatrical strings, distorted vocal snippets, and even funky soul synth grooves! So much inspiration from several different eras of music, and it’s incorporated into this modern-day hip-hop shit so well!
I first discovered Tev with his work on the latest Money Mogly album (who’s on this record), and so I’m familiar with his artistic work and techniques, but this feels next level!
This album feels like a time machine trip that has a handful of stops along the way. Whether that be 90’s hip-hop or 80’s funk or 70’s soul to 60’s jazz to 50’s classical opera! There are so many different layers to this score that it keeps the brain stimulated and the senses on high alert! It’s like getting spoiled in choice for this sonic palette! Truly remarkable work by Tev!
As far as the MC work goes, I wasn’t kidding when I said Shottie is one of the most underrated cats out. From everything I heard of him this year alone, features/albums, and all he’s always bringing is that high energy, solid work ethic, and quality bars that are as good, if not better, than the top guys in the industry!
You can tell he’s a man of dedication, passion, and commitment to the game! Based on the sheer volume of features I’ve heard him on, it means he’s a trusted person amongst everyone in the underground, and his work speaks for itself.
This album is no different. He brings his trademark smooth flow, sharp and introspective lyricism, accompanied by an overflowing aura and a pen game most would die for!
Whenever he spits bars, he does it in such a captivating way that you can’t help but pay attention to every single word! He has that effect on people!
Of course, across the features, he proves once again why he can pull off dope chemistry with these upper class MC’s but that he can always hang with the best of them!
Man, without any doubt in my mind, he impressed me once again! Everything from the production of the verses to the features, it all hits ON POINT! Do yourself a favour and check this shit out!
