As far as new artist discoveries go, this guy is NEXT LEVEL. I didn’t know what to expect before going into this, but it definitely wasn’t this. When it comes to tracks that stand out, this one is definitely that! Let’s tap in!
This is the May release single by MC and Producer God Gotti! And this track which is just under 4 minutes along provides the audience with a Choir like church perspective! Let me explain!
The track starts off with God talking on the podium (what a line) and he goes on to say ‘But, I don’t want to be the only person sitting on the stage talking about my life, I’d like anyone who has anything to say to stand up’ and that’s where we get the offical opening verse!
The production itself has a strong gospel flavour to it with those strong organ notes going off in the background, with those subtle plucked strings and that smooth, delicate vocal harmonies that are definitely reminiscent of a church choir! It all forms together into this gorgeous, melodic and atmospheric vibe that is a joy to hear! The kind of beat I could listen to for days and never get sick of it!
As far as the MC work goes, God Gotti has the aura of a real preacher! It really sounds like he’s standing in front of a church talking his shit! Talking about his life, his flexes and his struggles! He has a solid/powerful cadence, a commanding flow, introspective lyricism and a strong pen game!
I also love how the last minute and a half is just him off the top, speaking to the congress (so to speak) and pretty much saying ‘Your not fucking with me period, but you can try though’ like that line enough is a statement a warning saying ‘You can try, but it won’t end well’
He reminds me of a younger more savage version of Minister Louis Farrakhan with his unwavering presence and solid demeanour! His verse was simply put, phenomenal!
Man, this is the kind of freshness and originality and conceptual art we need in Hip Hop! Ain’t nobody want Joyner Lucas rapping from the perspective of a frog and a fly back in forth set in 1700’s Scotland. That’s dumb shit, portraying yourself in a church setting, with like minded production, then handing the podium off to the speaker and that’s how the verse starts? That’s real art!
