(Wasted Talent 2)

After a promising lead single in ‘DOPE MOVES’, I was not only optimistic but actually told by the author himself that this was going to be one of the dopest EP’s I’ll hear yet! Considering his last project was amazing and that single, I had no reason to doubt him, and so here we are, let’s talk about it!

So, this is the brand new EP by MC, songwriter, and producer ‘Bucket Top Boogz’. This is a six-track, 13-minute endeavour with no features! Seems to be a trend with this guy, and one I thoroughly respect!

Now, let’s start with production. As the single led on, this is a very atmospheric, surreal, and diving into realms of minimalism with its bare yet powerful instrumentation across the songs!

What he makes up for lacking in additional layers of production, he more than made up for in quality substance with this project feeling like a hypnotic trip through space, with a hip-hop soundtrack to guide you along the experience!

I love the aggressive presentation of drum patterns, the heavy-handed chords and beats, and raw utilisation of the sounds, rhythms, and melodies across this EP! It’s like he’s trying to balance the two worlds of

– gritty/atmospheric and somehow pulling it off! This is the kind of EP I’d listen to right after smoking a fat one and falling asleep to, hoping to astral project! Because it does have that mesmerising aura-filled essence that’s surrounded by rough-around-the-edges underground rap production, and it’s in that juggle that we get such exquisitely intense energy and vibes!

As far as the man behind the beats go. As expected, he’s in his zone across his own production. He’s confident, crisp, collected, and capable all in one! More of a throwback to his other album, he showcased his versatility on the mic again, with some tracks (like DOPE MOVES) having a more monotone and cold delivery, while tracks like (FUCK HULK HOGAN) showcase his more explosive and charismatic personality with added adlibs to match!

Although he only had 13 minutes to go, he doesn’t waste any second of it! He emphasises his lyricism, brings out the full scope of his pen game, flow, and accessibility across these instrumentals to make sure every single word hits exactly where it’s needed to be!

The verses are dope, ruthless, and at times introspective in nature as he takes us on various linguistic adventures that are sure to suck you in and have you feeling like you’re firsthand experiencing the situations described!

This very well could be the dopest 13 minutes of 2024. It’s a fantastic sequel and a really unique and original listening experience!
