I can still remember the first record I reviewed for this man all those months ago. The impact it had and the impression it left on me. Now we are back with a record that excited me before I even pressed play, so does it live up to the hype? Let’s talk about it!
This is the brand-new record by MC YoungReese Dude and produced by So=Cal and these two drop 12 tracks with the likes of
-Demarco
-Roberts
-Marv One
And with this trio, they help create a record that is equal parts beautiful and intimate in its conception and detail. The first thing I feel I have to talk about is the production aspect. Because similar to the first one, this is absolutely stunning and harmonic in the best ways.
The instrumentals here kind of remind me of ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ in execution. It’s light, melodic, and beautifully crafted while also maintaining that authentic hip-hop feel and sound, and it’s in that perfect blend that this production exists.
When I was sitting down listening to this record, trying to absorb all the lush bass strings, all those jazz-inspired piano keys, and subtle drum lines, it makes it clear that he’s not trying to merely make a ‘record’ but a score for the audience to soak in!
If I had to choose a favourite track on the record, I’d have to say ‘Jansport’. I just love how organic and atmospheric it is. With those free-forming keys and those intricate synths going off in the background.
It’s got all the elements that I love in a track and further emphasises the overall feel of the record itself!
The production on this album is beyond gratifying. So=Cal taking advantage of all those smooth and angelic moments to the highest degree, and I loved everything about it!
Speaking of smooth, we have the man himself, Reese. As usual, this dude is a savage! He has this unique ability where he seems to match the energy of any record he’s on and shine through the music to create even more grand and exciting verses!
As the production is smooth in nature, so are his bars that glide through like glass in the wind. He’s so contextually powerful and vivid with his wordplay that you can feel in your bones every single phrase or bar that he’s represented and using his uncanny aura and charisma to paint a verbal picture that won’t soon be forgotten!
Throughout this record, he’s showcasing his A-tier pen game, his devastatingly effective flow, lyricism, and approach to the mic. What’s dope is that he never stays in one style for long. If the song needs fast-paced and high energy, he’s got you. For the tracks that need slow and methodical, HE’S GOT YOU!
For tracks that need a bit more flair and artistry to the mix, he’s got you for that as well! There’s not a single lane he can’t do himself, and he excels at all of them!
Whether he’s rapping solo or with features, his morale, convictions, and passion remain the same. He doesn’t change himself for anybody, and that’s what makes him such an outstanding and talented threat in the hip-hop game!
Overall, this is a fantastic sequel to his other record. It’s got wrestling vibes (which I fucked with heavily), it’s got those smooth ambient/jazz vibes which I adore, and the rapping was the definition of exceptional!
