Well, this is definitely a first for me. My first time reviewing an LP that is an extension of an EP I already covered previously! But there’s a first time for everything, so let’s get into it!
This is the brand-new record by MC God Gotti and Producer Produced By P, and together they drop an extended 10 tracks from 4, delivering a more complete structure compared to the previous one! And I’m going to try my best not to repeat myself across this one as those 4 tracks do appear on here as well!
So starting with the production, I feel this is his most skeletal, obscure, and bare sounds to date that he’s worked with. Each track has its own methodically paced instrumentals that are packed with raw emotions, heavy ambiance, and a direct approach on melodies and harmonies!
I’d say the most obvious example of this would be in ‘Big Worm’, that is slow-paced and atmospheric, but there are other cuts such as ‘Close Call’ that also fit that same description.
As far as the newer tracks that stood out to me, we have ‘Method Acting’, that intrigues me because it sounds like it was recorded in the rain! It has that heavy rain ASMR background vibe to it, as well as heavy bass lines and hypnotic drum patterns that take centre stage!
Another track that has an almost ‘dark synth’ quality to it with those vibrating chords in the background over some more engaging drums! I feel unlike the last EP version, the emphasis here is on those gigantic, grand, eerie sounds that’s meant to give the listener goosebumps and feel a certain way, and that’s what I feel is happening across this album with P surprising me once again!
Now to talk about God Gotti, named after the hit mafia man himself. On this project, he presents himself in probably the most ominous I’ve heard him to date, with engaging sound effects, his vocal harmonies having echo sounds and looming background effects, all for a more ‘larger than life’ feel on his part!
Of course, he generates his usual brand of dominating yet smooth hip-hop delivery with his massive energy, his underlying charisma, and infectious rhyme, combined with his old-school and tested bar work that’s as vivid as it is compelling and consistent across these tracks!
We hear him go off across the 19 minutes with puns, phrases, beautifully delivered one-liners, and epic verses to match. His pen game remains undefeated, and he somehow brings even MORE personality and character to his rhymes than he ever has before amidst this darker and more serious-sounding production!
I also have to comment on the fact that he comes on this LP featureless! He’s rocking these 10 tracks solo and proving why he’s one of the up-and-coming kings of the new wave, showcasing his ability to not only out-rap most of the competition but doing it SOLO!
The EP was good, but the LP was better! If you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself now!
