Man, talk about a turn I wasn’t expecting! I remember covering one of this group in a solo project and being incredibly impressed and excited to see where he’d go next, but I didn’t think it would be in a collective effort! But I can’t lie, that’s got me even more hyped! So let’s talk about it!
This is the brand-new project by collective ‘MINDLESS OUTCAST’, which consists of members:
– Mac Yames
– Mellow Flannel
– The Real Mad Mane
And coming along with producer Garth Cooks, they come equipped with enough fierce energy and sharp vocabulary to make a strong statement as they kick in the door!
I gotta start with the trio because they really surprised me. Of course, I’m familiar with Mac, but the rest, this is my first time (and on top of that) to see how they vibe as a unit, and the answer is STRONGLY!
If I’m being honest, their synchronicity between the three reminds me of Griselda! Strong words, I know, but you can hear how they go back and forth and throw the next verse to the next person with ease.
There’s no awkward pauses or obvious quality differences! Nothing to break the smoothness of the record, just three dope MC’s who work as if they know each other like the back of their hands!
I love the ruthless and cutthroat energy this trio brings to the table! They all have raw, in-your-face flows with a pen game that doesn’t quit! Bar after bar, vivid imagery, clever one-liners, and puns, they’ve got everything on lock!
This feels like child’s play to the likes of them! They utilise that production beautifully and breathe alongside it in perfect harmony, not a word out of place!
Of course, you do have two people helping to push the record with -suckersenvylegends and -Jamar Equality taking turns in their respective tracks to rise the flame level of the songs and do so, we’ll be proving even more intensity and strength to the already brimmed atmosphere of the core three!
As far as the production goes, I guess we can say that no one really wants the ‘smoke’ because ‘speed kills’. No one has that ‘invincible armour’, whether you have a ‘The Sword’, you ‘Don’t Lie’ because they don’t have the ‘Touch Down’.
But in all seriousness, this man goes HARD! He brings a special flair to the record that I hear, combining the various worlds of:
-Modern Day Boom Bap
-Early 2010’s Mainstream Hip Hop
-Mid 2000’s West Coast Hip Hop
And even influences from 90’s rap! I hear so many different inspirations from the instrumentals provided, and each track is done and executed in a grand way!
Like, for example, I’d say the song ‘Invincible Armour’ has more of a 2010’s feel to it, while the intro itself reminds me more of the current landscape of Boom Bap! While ‘The Sword’ reminds me of the early 2000’s!
That’s the fantastic effort of this record, with so many different elements and homages paid, we have a sound for absolutely anyone and everyone! The audience is spoiled for choice and still maintaining the fluent energy to have this project feel like an LP rather than a collection of songs that don’t mean anything to each other!
If I had to choose my favourite beat, it would probably be ‘#’s Don’t Lie’. I love this track because of its heavy jazz influence with those progressing horns and hypnotic drum patterns and subtle bass lines! It’s absolutely cinema!
Once again, Mac (and new company) don’t miss! They come swinging so hard that the industry won’t have a choice but to pay attention
