It ain’t easy to maintain a series of albums, let alone to reach a 4th! But these two have proven to be part of the 1% who could actually pull it off! After a successful line of records, they have returned to prove that (at least for them) catching lightning in a bottle ain’t as hard as it seems! Let’s talk about it!
This is the brand-new record and sequel by MC Poe Mack and producer Van Gunz, and together they drop a fresh 14 tracks with the likes of
-DJ City Rich on the cuts
-Slvrbck Lauren and -The Bad Seed on the MC feature!
You know, when we talk about the production on this one, I have to say I was pleasantly impressed! Why? It has a nostalgic feeling to it that makes me feel warm inside! For example, track ‘Small Town Man’ which samples that classic song that I can’t remember the name of but one that is always played on the 80’s radio stations!
Not only this song but songs like ‘Praise Be’ which has this heavy synth pop vibe with those long elevated strings in the background, those delicate keys, and those methodically paced drums that make this whole track feel like the soundtrack you’d hear at the end of a late 70’s or 80’s thriller movie when the main character is going through their ‘redemption’ arc.
We have tracks like ‘The Tabernacle’ which is the track with Slvrbck on it. This track has a more gospel feel to it with those choir-style vocal harmonies but broken apart with those heavy, raw drum patterns and those light strings in the background that make for a rather compelling 90’s hip hop feel type of track (as it literally features a sample and cut of Biggie Small’s vocals).
The song ‘The Alphas’ which once again samples a classic track with Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’ using that opening line and looping it, and bro, to think I’d hear Freddie Mercury on the same song as one with Bad Seed? That’s yet ANOTHER bingo card entry I couldn’t have ever expected and one I can’t unhear and wouldn’t want to!
This track has those delicate piano keys and heavy drum patterns that make for a rather interesting combination of Underground Rap and 80’s pop rock influence!
And if there’s any question that Seed would kill
it on this track, then slap yourself; he ain’t never taking no L’s! He kills it as usual!
All these tracks have a special feel to the production that not only wasn’t I expecting but brought a refreshing energy to the whole project that I fell in love with instantly! Shoutout to Van Gunz for this one!
Now onto Poe Mack, the one who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word quit! He absolutely nails his verses as he has done every time he approaches the studio, and on this record, he sounds better than he has!
We hear him on this record more aggressive, more relentless, and more ruthless sounding than I remember him!
He ain’t playing on this record; he’s got that sharp and cold lyricism! That flaming pen game and that undeniable rhythm that is soaked in power and conviction that makes each beat tremble with his vocal performances!
I love the gritty aura he brings with him; his in-your-face, I don’t give a fuck attitude is so addictive! Just like his brother Seed, he has the same mentality of not giving a fuck what anyone says or thinks, and it’s refreshing to see someone else with that same level of confidence and integrity!
He’s so fluent across each track, never a L taken or weak bar to be found. Each verse is done with the utmost care, excellence, and enough devotion to shame out your local preacher! He’s letting the world know that he’s the man to beat and he’s walking the walk, letting the verses speak for themselves!
Make sure you go check out the duo’s latest edition because it’s guaranteed to not only blow your brains but leave an impression you won’t be able to get rid of!
