This is definitely an exciting day. A brand new EP by a man who has set waves to me over the last year. He dropped some of the most amazing albums and left an impression on me that I couldn’t shake, and so I had to make sure I was here to see what he was going to do in the new year. And now that we are here and accompanied by one of the dopest producers in the game, this is a collection of tracks that can’t be missed! Let’s go!
This is the latest 3-track EP by MC Young Reese Dude and Production from Nicholas Craven, and together they drop:
-Hardcore
-Aroma
-Hell In The Cell 97 -Featuring ActionFigure973
And across this tape, the production is obviously fantastic. Anything Nicholas touches turns into gold, and this is no exception.
When we look at track one, we see Craven utilise those delicate piano keys, plucked bass strings, as well as those subtle drum beats that act as a sort of skeleton to the track!
There’s also, as the track continues, some high-pitched synth chords that have an almost orchestral effect to the song and add some grand texture to wrap the whole song up!
On the song two, we have a more soulful vibe that’s absolutely gorgeous! It has this prominent vocal loop that reminds me of a Joni Mitchell-type tone and energy that I fell in love with immediately. On top of this, we have some plucked strings, light chord progressions with an ambient effect in the background, as well as some more soft jazz drum patterns as this whole track comes together in a larger-than-life effect!
To close the track off, we have song three, which ends in a more boom-bap-influenced take on the album. You’ve got those mysterious chord progressions in the loop that end in a sharp piano/organ keys as well as some methodical drums that feel hypnotic in nature!
I also love how this track uses WWE Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross talking about the infamous ‘Hell In A Cell’ match as a mid-way interlude before the banger verse by ActionFigure comes through and closes the track off with a BANG BANG!
When looking at the bigger picture, I feel it’s probably best that we started off with a close-knit EP of this calibre to highlight the skills and performance of Young Reese and give the culture a sonic re-wiring to remind everyone just why he’s one to watch out for, and this is a fantastic way to start that!
Across this short EP, you’ll hear him at his most expressive, sharp, and engaging. He knows time is of the essence, and he’s making the most of it! He’s utilising all the iconic wrestling themes and dynamics and playing his role in executing the vibrant and charismatic bars and verses that are sure to be left in your head for days to come!
I was profoundly impressed with the amount of concentration and rhythm he packed into this EP. The level of creative and colourful puns, one-liners, cultural references, and more. It’s as if he’s trying to cut the most impressive 7-minute promo that’s cut into 3 segments with the assistance of ActionFigure at the end!
Speaking of, talk about impressive! Being able to rap alongside a legend like that and make it look easy? That’s aura if I’ve ever heard it!
Overall, for such a short release, it has the impact of the Double Arm DDT! The production is ridiculously sharp, the lyricism more potent and effective than I’ve ever heard him, and Action closed off with a masterclass verse. Go listen to the EP below and remember, HAVE A NICE DAY!
