(Dead Man’s Hand)

As we step closer and closer to the album drop, every new single is starting to feel more exciting, and this is no exception. From the first album I covered of his to the various tracks he’s only gotten stronger with time, and if this new song is any indication of what the album will sound like, then we are in for a fucking treat! Let’s go!

This is the brand-new single by MC (1/3 of my personal Monster Trio), JJackpot, and produced by Koba Dera, and together they reunite with a quick 1 minute and 46 seconds just to wet the appetite of the audience and leave us hungry for the grand drop!

On this one, we hear Koba back on his heavyweight shit! Never one to join the trend of that ridiculous over-the-top shit, he’s the kind to pay homage to the OG style of things. What I mean is minimalistic layers that are mastered and refined so well that it sounds cinematic, and that’s exactly what’s happening here!

On this track, we hear these beautifully plucked strings in that infectious loop, combined with some synth-style key progressions and a heavy-handed drum pattern that wraps the whole track together!

There’s also some faint sci-fi-inspired chords that run through the track every few seconds! Giving the song a bit of ‘spooky’ texture!

Either way, the mastery is making a track that isn’t even a minute and fifty seconds rock as hard as this one does! Never a boring second to be found, and it proves just how killer he is because if he can do this with a short beat, imagine what can be done with a fully developed longer one? He’s absolutely one of my favourite producers right now!

Also, can’t help but love that ending skit of a card game gone wrong! (Or right) depending on perspective!

Of course, the other half of this duo is JJackpot, one of the most talented MC’s out right now, one who has paved the way for the new generation to follow, and one who possesses one of the most unique performance types I’ve heard in the present day!

As usual, he brings his trademark gravel voice to the mix, using it to portray a vivid story of a man hijacking a card game and using his Stella voice acting to make the scene that much more intense and realistic!

In between that, we hear his iconic fluent flow that seems to always glide across the beat, ever so light yet heavy like bricks of gold. He reminds me of prime Method Man or Redman in that sense; he doesn’t seem to even know how to skip a beat; he’s just on ball each time he spits on the mic.

His pen game is strong, his lyricism is shaped and precise, and his charisma and ability are something I’ll never get sick of! Especially when he’s on a beat with Koba!

Man, I haven’t been more excited than I am right now for a new JJackpot album. WE NEED IT YESTERDAY! This is another dope teaser, but I’m sick of being teased; I need the full thing; the culture needs it! But in the meantime, check this out!
