On this occasion, I’m back with a man who I’ve covered in the past, who left a solid impression on me and now is back to light a new spark into my soul! Alongside a producer who I’ve seen making waves in the current scene! Will this new combination of artists accomplish the same result as last time? Let’s find out together!
This is the brand-new EP by MC Sam R I and Producer Truelove that features the likes of

And across this ten-track offering, we are greeted with an even more exciting, evolved, and innovative version of Sam than I’ve ever heard him before; he’s not fucking around! He’s bringing his A+ game, and it shows.
I want to discuss the production real quick because even though I don’t have much experience with him personally, I’ve heard and seen great things, and it seems only fitting that now I get to fully embrace his character and see why he’s being mentioned across the underground scene!
Firstly, what he brings across to me is theatrical brilliance. The instrumentals don’t feel ‘underground’ per se but more in the realm of the 90s mainstream scene! I’m talking that prime RZA, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre level shit! It’s truly remarkable!
Each of these ten tracks feels crisp; they feel raw and lavish all in one. There’s a certain hypnotic element to the music with those rhythmic vocal loops, plucked strings, and skeletal drums, as well as those classic scratches that come together in small doses, layers that create the perfect landscape for an unbelievable atmosphere! One that is equal parts nostalgic and refreshing!
This truly feels like Truelove studying and took home the best lessons from the golden era and combined them with his own personal techniques and experiences to create his very own take on a surreal score of hip hop that I guarantee will be blowing everyone away once they listen to this! No doubt!
When we talk about Sam, as I mentioned just after the intro, he’s bringing his A+ and now I know why. When rocking with ridiculous production such as this, he had no choice but to massacre the beats and that’s exactly what he does here!
He’s absolutely ruthless on these tracks, with his calm yet malicious tone, he ain’t gotta ‘push’ nothing since he has his cadence locked to a ‘T’.
He’s got that smooth yet impactful rapping performance where he uses his nonchalant attitude combined with his sharp lyricism and sniper style precision to create devastating verbal cues without anyone knowing what happened until they see the hypothetical body lying on the floor!
He’s one of the most interesting MC’s I’ve come across in a minute because he oozes confidence and conviction but does it in such a laid-back style, kind of like a Guru from Gang Starr or a Napoleon Da Legend adjacent! A man who knows he can out-rap anyone in the room yet doesn’t have the need to overly flex or pretend to be a tough guy! He lets his abilities speak for him and that’s what I respect him for!
The features on this project do their part well also! Providing added energy and fire to the project while maintaining solid fundamentals and chemistry between the two men! Nothing worse than features brought in just for ‘feature sake’, absolutely not the case here as they attempt to match Sam in execution, passion, and overall delivery!
