(Paper Umbrellas)

It’s not every day you get a record as thrilling as this. This feels less like an album and more like an audio version of a film come to life. Between one of the most profound duos of the past few years, so with that in mind let’s talk about this!

This is the brand-new album by the duo ‘Two Ton Halo’ which is a combination of MC Unknown Misery and Producer Rex Seshunz which shows the appearances of

-Avani

-Araiah

-Amelia

-DJ Lando

-Stina Bee

And look, when you’re dealing with a pair as compelling as these two it’s hard to truly digest the themes and messages they are presenting. With most albums it’s sound first then the lessons but this record flips all that on its head by focusing on the thoughts and concepts over a dope crafted project!

Let’s take that intro track for example – Introducing The Rain this has to be one of the greatest and strongest intros I’ve heard in years. With the combination of those thunder sounds and light jazz horns and subtle strings that come together to create this ASMR fever dream that’s both minimalistic and beautiful.

I love how Babylon is just talking his shit, speaking his mind as if he’s out there in that thunder with a cigarette in hand, pen in the other! It’s truly a heartfelt spoken word song to kick the album off.

As we get deeper into the album, it stays consistently on the same smooth, atmospheric wavelength with these soulful, classical and jazz cuts that come together to form this score of

Lavish instrumentation infused with glorious notes, keys and horns that help manifest a harmonious rhythm and listening experience that is truly unlike any other.

I can feel the music come alive and speak to me through the headphones. I can feel the vibrations piercing my skin and providing goosebumps like I haven’t felt in ages.

This is a mix of so many different emotions to me. From the mid-2000s era Common to the 2010s era SoundCloud poetry rap such as Milo/R.A.P Ferreira, to the 90s homage of quality control and trademark cuts and scratches that give the hint of nostalgia feel!

Across these 11 tracks we feel a sense of fluency and conceptuality running through the 33 minutes. It’s as if each track is its own mini chapter that helps shape and tell the whole overall story and sonic narrative with absolutely no filler or weak parts just a film cut up into 11 episodes that showcases creative compositions at its absolute best!

Speaking of narratives we have the MC work which I already spoke about briefly regarding the intro but as the album goes on so does the quality of the verses and its larger than life feel and texture across the beats. We aren’t just dealing with a standard ‘MC’ but rather a supreme author who’s using all his writing abilities to convey his vision and story onto the instrumentals and does so in spectacular fashion!

Unknown isn’t just a standard MC, in fact he should be more KNOWN because he’s one of the most outstanding lyricists I’ve come across. As I mentioned above he’s more than just a rapper or an MC he’s a wordsmith and author of the highest caliber! He’s out here preaching his truth, his experiences HIS STORY to the world and doing so in such detail, such vivid imagery such renowned artistry that it makes most others pale in comparison.

From the opening spoken word I was hooked and by the end of it I was enticed. The way he’s able to glue your attention for the entirety of the 33 minutes with his penmanship is ridiculous.

Not to mention his chemistry with the other names involved! He ain’t just dope at being a solo player he’s also equally as proficient working with others and generating as much energy and natural vibes from the people he’s working alongside and that’s why each feature sounds so fucking crisp!

He’s swift, sharp, intelligent, verbally masterful, witty, conceptual and narratively brilliant. He’s conquered each aspect of writing and has converted that into hip hop to create what very well could be the perfect lyrical album.

I em asking each and every one of you to listen to this one. If there’s any new album your gonna take a chance on I plead that it’s this one because i guarantee you won’t feel the same
