(Super Soniq)

One thing I’ve noticed these last few months is the rise in more smooth-sounding records. Is this a sign of a changing tide? Hell, I wouldn’t be mad at it. I love both the gritty and the melodic, so it wouldn’t mean anything to me if that was the case, but I must say listening to more records of this style makes me happy! It’s rather refreshing!

This is the brand-new album by MC Erv100 and producer Blaq Medici, and together they drop this solid seven-track 20-minute project with the likes of

-Reek Osama

-William Bostick

-King Androit

As far as the features and producer are concerned, I’m very familiar! Can’t say the same for the MC in question, but I can safely say he impressed me with what he brought to the table!

He has this interesting delivery style that’s a combination of passionate and toned down. I’d compare it to a mix of a Common meets Guru, an MC who is capable of out-smoking most on the mic but also has the humble attitude to present a laid-back attitude and stay in his lane.

Each bar he spits feels heavy due to his well-rounded performance, his vivid imagery, his sharp focus on lyricism, and his skill in enunciation that helps him remain clear and consistent when he raps his verses!

I love how calm and focused he remains for the entire 20. I’ve noticed so many cats in the game try and be over the top or try to overwhelm the listener in mistaking it for grabbing attention and forgetting to stay true to themselves. This man is a dope MC with an obvious sense of rhythm and penmanship, and he utilises these skills and qualities across this entire album, and that’s what will make him memorable!

Even his chemistry with the various features! Skill speaks for itself when you can rap alongside men like -Reek Osama,

– William Bostick,

– King Androit! Definitely not easy acts to follow, and yet he makes it look effortless!

As I mentioned above, the production on this project feels naturally smooth and harmonious. A less harsh sonic environment than what I’m accustomed to in the underground, and as I also said above, it’s ’refreshing’ to hear a change of pace and atmosphere in the scene right now. That’s why I feel Blaq Medici is one of the top and most underrated producers we have right now. He’s consistent, he’s articulate, he’s technical, and he knows how to bring the best out of the people he’s working with, as is the case here!

Across these seven tracks, we get what I would describe as a ‘fever dream’ aesthetic in the music. It’s dreamy, it’s reminiscent of a beautiful summer’s day walking through a forest. The kind of vibe we all hope our days off from work are!

See, the danger for me with records of this calibre is that I become so obsessed and relaxed with the gorgeous instrumentation that I forget to stay in ‘writer mode’, and I find myself drifting into a relaxed state of mind until my third listen, and I’m like ‘oh fuck wait, I’m listening to this for WORK’ and then go into analysis mode, but man, it was hard to do that here, it’s just so fucking beautiful in execution.

But if I had to play DEVIL’S ADVOCATE and choose a favourite song out of it all, it would have to be -Slow Motion. This beat is the definition of relaxation on a stick. From those bass-filled chord progressions, those delicate spacey keys, and that brilliant jazz horns, nah, this thing has it all! Even thinking about this track has made me way too relaxed! Definitely a standout!

If you ain’t on this wave, then you’re the type of cat to wake up and mean-mug your bowl of Lucky Charms. Life ain’t that serious, and you should take some time out to enjoy a laid-back album of this magnitude! Trust me, your body, soul, and mind will thank you for it! Check it out below!
