I’d like to think these two make one of the more underappreciated duos in the game right now. As someone who has probably covered two dozen sets of singles by these men in my time, they never seem to grow boring or tiresome but continue to push the boundaries of what they can do sonically, and to me, that’s what true innovation is all about. So with that in mind, let’s talk about this single!
This is the 27th of March single by MC Here$ Johnny & Producer LordMixer, and together they drop this rather intriguing 2 minutes and 48 seconds of content that proves my earlier point of continued innovation!
Let’s start with the production value, as this one feels a lot more experiential and freelance than most other instrumentals I’ve heard Mixer and Johnny on. For starters, it takes 36 seconds for Johnny to start his verse, which is something I appreciate because it means even in the short timespan, they have Lord still utilising the art of ‘patience’ and doing things on HIS own time! We have these layers of various vocal snippets and lines that help make the beat!
From this looping voice line that acts more as a chord than words, we have the line ‘I won’t let you, let him tell them’ and the rest just becomes blurred in translation with yet another vocal line in a different tone, which is continued by ANOTHER vocal line saying ‘Genetics is pathetic’.
This song, taking advantage of 4 different vocals alongside some minimalistic piano keys and drum rhythms, is actually genius and insane at the same time. Kind of like a more distorted and underground version of Kanye’s ‘Jesus Walks’ but in a more extreme spectrum of chaos! I love how discombobulated this track sounds and yet somehow manages to have an aspect of harmony to it?
This is the literal sonic equivalent of the Big Bang Theory come to practice . Having chaos create life! Absolutely bizarre but brilliant by Lord
And of course, who else should I want on such a unique piece of music then Johnny? A man who is renowned for his adventurous production choices to push the bar ever so further! This one takes the cake, but interestingly enough, while the instrumental is one of the more wild I’ve heard, Here$ vocals are on the more tamed and focused versions of himself I’ve heard in a minute! (Talk about a contrast)
Of course, at the end of the day, here’s still Johnny. Still easily one of the most intense and entertaining MC’s in the game, period. BUT it feels like he’s taken a few notches down for this one. It seems like he’s focused more on a more hypnotic and memorable performance rather than an intense, raw one!
Even so, I loved his verse on this one. The way he was rapping and his trademark in-your-face approach scratched the last remaining itch I had associated with this beat!
Honestly, now that I think about it. He sounds exactly how the artwork feels. A badass eagle wrestler flexing his championship! If that could be transformed into a verse, that’s what this would sound like! He’s that FLY! (Pun intended)
I just wish I had heard this sooner, because if I had, I would have definitely included it in my top singles of March! But better late than never, and all of you reading this should have the same mentality and go check this out now! Link below!
