To say he’s one of the most compelling producers out right now is just a fact. Since the first time I discovered him last year, I haven’t looked back. He has a million-dollar sound that turns anything he works on into platinum. Now he’s back with a new record to flex on the market once again! So let’s talk about it!
This is the brand-new album by Producer Deevo Da Genius, with features from various MC’s such as
– MARCO PLUS
– BLUEHILLBILL
– Kil The Artist
– Monday Night
– Ea$tside $hee$h
– Borirock
– Dun Dealy
– TEGA
– 4FIVES6NICE
– El Camino
– Boldy James
That’s a PREMIUM roster if I’ve ever heard one, and they all absolutely kill their roles!
But before we discuss the spitters, I want to dissect the production. Because as I said above, no one is doing it like Deevo; no one has the same star power feel as him. It’s truly a blessing we got him working with the underground because he could easily be mistaken for a mainstream artist with how crisp and clean his style is. He’s one of those beat makers where every song they make has the ability to be a number one hit on the radio!
Across this one, we hear a nice variety between smooth, experimental, instrumental tracks and gritty boom-bap. He found a way to incorporate all these different elements across a plethora of genres and influences to create a unique listening experience unlike any other.
For example, if you go down the ‘smooth’ lane, you get influences from
– Soul
– Classical
– Funk
If you choose the ‘Experimental’ lane, you get
– Jazz
– Lo Fi
– Ambient
If you choose the ‘Gritty boom-bap’, you get that hardcore hip-hop feel that we’ve all become addicted to over the years! And with a list of heavy hitters to accompany all these different sounds, he really can’t miss!
I love the fucking control and fluency he shows on this album (well, across any and all albums), but this one especially.
In one moment, like on -BLACKOPALRARENECKLACE, he embraces his ‘Flying Lotus’ colourful and bright instrumental hip hop with that fast-paced experimental/jazz influence! Then, literally the very next track -HOOTO MAGNETO, he goes straight wavy Coke wave/Boom Bap with that haunting combo of rhythmic drums and glistening keys! And of course, with Bori on the cut, slaughtering the beat!
I love the infinity he has with any artist he has on. It feels like he has decades of chemistry and personalised experience with anyone one he collabs with. No MC ever feels out of place or green on his albums. He seems to command a certain level of respect and quality control because anyone who jumps on his beats gives the best verses I’ve heard!
From the legendary work with BlueHill & Kil to the constant work with guys like Bori and Monday to even grander names (which in this case is El Camino & Boldy), his portfolio and career speak for itself as he’s able to get anyone who’s anyone to come on and drop bars on his work!
I love the energy and enthusiasm of everyone on here! I can’t say I have a favourite verse because they are all stellar and each beat is tailor-made to the specific artist in question. I love to see the ‘FEED THE FAMILY’ influence on this one and, of course, the Blu and Kil are proven guaranteed gems when around Deevo!
All the other names do one hell of a job lighting their tracks on fire and testing themselves across such marvellous production!
He’s one of the only producers who can somehow be both absolutely chaotic and fluent at the same time. He’s a walking Big Bang Theory turning chaos into order. Honestly, I could listen to his beats for days and never get sick of them! It shouldn’t even be a question whenever you want to check this one out; the answer should just be YES!
