(NARCO MASTERS)

Well, it’s been a minute since I last covered an album by this prolific man, and I figured it’s time to come back! This one, based on its name and artwork, intrigued me the most, so here we go!

This is the brand-new album by MC Gustavo Louis and producer Cusho, and together they drop a solid 11-track/21-minute experience that, if I’m not mistaken, is a street album using ‘golf’ as its main concept, which is new for me! (Ever)

If we start with Gustavo himself, we see him back stronger than ever with his combination of his more melodic variety with a lot of singing notes throughout the song as he provides the tracks with his own vocal harmonies! As well as his charismatic and animated performance that he’s become iconic for.

The way he’s able to combine the elements of street wave x colourful concepts is actually wild when you think about it. I could count on my hand the amount of people that can do the same; it’s definitely a short list!

It’s always like he’s in his own little world when he’s laying down his bars. It’s like he has his own domain expansion, NARCOVERSE! Where time and space just stop for him while he delivers his wildly unique and entertaining content! From his forever shifting tones and pitches, to his versatility in his pen game, slick and smooth penmanship, and an energy so contagious that it’s impossible not to vibe with!

It’s as if he’s born with 24/7 adrenaline. I’ve never heard this man sound down or mundane; he’s always peaking at the highest energy and impact frames that make his verses and overall discography so strong! (Even when making an album inspired by fucking golf!)

As he’s frequently known to do, he’s found himself with yet ANOTHER producer that I haven’t heard of before, and yet just as always does, these two pair off with incredible chemistry between them!

On this one, we hear a more loopy, surreal, and atmospheric score that feels like you’re transported into a different dimension while listening!

It’s not really anything like you’ve heard before. It’s not Boom Bap or Jazz rap or soul or funk, it’s almost everything combined into one unique piece of music exclusively to itself! A little pocket realm if you would, one where any and all musical influence can be assumed to be found, and it’s rather entertaining!

If I had to choose a few of my favourite tracks out of the 11, then these would be it:

  1. – MONEY IN THE BANK: This song had a mysterious twist to it with those elegant key progressions, subtle drums, and so much wrestling references that as a huge fan, it got me amped!

There were also some higher chords in the background I could hear that had this high pitch that gave this track an extra layer of texture!

2- There’s the song BALLAD OF A LUCHADOR, which has this Spanish Jazz influence that I fell in love with! Talking about those heavy horn loops combined with those light keys running through the track, giving this one a mesmerising film score that feels like a Mexican stand-off you’d see in those old Western films!

All in all, if you’re a fan of Gustavo, you’ll love this one as he brings all his trademark performances and more to the table, and if you’re new to him, then this is the perfect place to start! Link below!
