One of my favourite monster trios is back! Having a steady (not too slow, not too fast) year in 2025, releasing a handful of bangers along the way, letting his work breathe more than most, and giving the audience enough time to soak in the offerings provided, now is the time again for a brand new EP that is sure to satisfy all the like-minded fans like myself waiting for his next drop!
This is the brand new EP by MC Wst. Taylor and produced by Kiddchichi (epic name), and together they drop five tracks all ranging in that two-minute mark (besides track two). To the question at hand, how does it sound?
Amazing.
As I’ve coped to love and respect about this man’s sound, the production across this tape is smooth, soulful, and jazz-filled across the field. We have all aspects more harmonious than the last, from angelic vocal loops to those jazz-inspired light drums and plucked strings to give off a classic 80’s/90’s vibe where the instrumentation was grand and lively in execution, god the music was fantastic!
Although it’s only five tracks, it feels like ten in the way the music itself is taken care of and demonstrated! If I had to describe how this sounds, it would be a combination of Anderson Paak meets Mac Miller with Dr. Dre-level quality production all tied up.
To be honest, I found it hard to pay attention to the music itself as it took me away! I was grooving to the music and letting my mind wonder in the overwhelming smoothness only to remember I actually have to write about this! That’s the effect it has!
If I didn’t know any better, I would have assumed there was a live band in the studio with these men performing that organic-sounding beats. I’m not kidding; every time I re-listened to this EP, I got more goosebumps every time.
This isn’t merely an album; this is the definition of a SCORE! Absolutely beautiful effort by Kiddchichi
Now onto my main man, he’s been a shining star in the new culture of the underground, and I’ve been very vocal of my praise of him and putting him in the trio of only two other men who I feel are breaking through the new generation of the new culture, that being
-Jackpot and -DatKidBravo, and alongside these men, Wst continues to push the boundaries and showcase why he’s one of the strongest MC’s and purists in the game right now, and this EP does nothing but further pushes that!
Across these tracks, we hear him more smooth and vulnerable than I’ve ever heard him. On this one, he ain’t worried about sounding the toughest or hardest or having the most compelling and gritty street poetry but instead showing a more mellow and delicate side, with a lot of the bars sounding like whispers and narration to his own thoughts and feelings over these immaculate production feats.
This feels like a personal introspective look into the man’s soul! Which was deceiving based on the album art. I was expecting another hard-hitting boom-bap record with his performances, but I couldn’t be more wrong!
He’s showing his cunning, his intricate nature, and the need to connect between his heart and the audience, and I think while it was a bold move to go this direction (especially after building a fanbase eager for his ridiculous feats of MC work) to go in this more methodically paced lane, I feel for what he’s trying to accomplish, he hits the nail on the head!
For five tracks, this has more depth than your favourite rappers’ full-length LPs! It’s heartfelt, smooth, and fucking infectious, and I ask all of you to give it a chance!
