(The Beat Hashashin)

Now, I’ll admit going into this I had no idea what to expect. Based on this man’s previous music and the kind of creative mind he is, I was ready for anything. Needless to say, I was given what I was expecting, which was the unexpected! Let’s talk about it!

So, this is the brand new project by MC Ric Da Shadow. MC and accompanying him are producers

-Someone

-Studio 53e

-Ginsing

-Ana Logiik

-Promotheus.

And -Eclypse on the feature!

And across this nine-track album we get so much interesting music! For example, that intro sounded like pure musical art. Kind of like ambient techno. Real subtle and beautiful with those foreign whistling sounds that just made the whole overture such a breathtaking way to start a record! Loved that intro.

From there we get deeper cuts of more hip

Hop sounds such as track 2 ‘Locked In’ which reminds me of a badass French movie with a bank robbery scene!

It has these amazing what sounds like short and sharp violin chords alongside subtle bass drums and this other harmonious chord that is subtly heard going off in the background like a horn or something but either way combined together and this becomes a fantastic official track to kick the record off!

The third track ‘Samurai Soul’ is a return to what the intro brought to the table with those beautifully ambient and atmospheric music! You’ve got those long and sharp strings, minimalistic drums and this time around we have this choir-style vocals that are subtle yet powerful!

It adds a new layer of depth and surrealism to the track that I absolutely love!

This whole track is probably my favourite on the whole album because it’s both gritty and cinematic which is my favourite combination!

Even if we look at the fourth track ‘Subterranean Art’ it is pretty much exactly what the song says. It has the sonic equivalent of a beat made in the depths of the oceans!

It’s very moody, eerie, and has a creepy vibe with those haunting piano keys and what sounded like a scream or muffled voice in the chorus? Almost like a man trapped in the bottom of the ocean, which is like my nightmare come to life! This whole track, although scary, is absolutely theatrical in execution!

These four are an example of how profound and powerful the producers are in making an album that sounds less like ‘music’ and more like ‘a living, walking, breathing painting’. Absolutely incredible!

Now, to the man who’s responsible for rapping over these incredible beats, we have Ric. This man goes absolutely HAMMER on these beats, and it’s definitely something you have to hear to experience!

He has a certain level of charisma and enthusiasm to him that makes all bars so fucking eccentric and infectious to listen to!

His level of flow, engaging wordplay, and vivid lyricism has him standing out from most in the pack right now! I love how he puts so much emphasis on his words and the way he pronounces them! He doesn’t just say words; he speaks them into existence with power and conviction!

Depending on the aura of each track, he has the amazing ability to match the tone and theatrical energy of the songs, which is absolutely insane! He can synchronise with the beats given and become the perfect vessel for the MC role!

He’s the kind of guy who’s more capable of holding down a record by himself, and for the most part he does exactly that!

Man, this album was absolutely phenomenal! From that production to the MC work. This is a MUST LISTEN for all to listen to this year!

(Immaculate Conception Freestyle)

Well, we have an exciting development with this man’s career. In the form of a freestyle, furthermore in a freestyle form over a well-established dope beat! As I would say, ‘if you’re going to go for broke, go all the way!’ And he’s definitely decided to swing for the fences with this ridiculous beat, and to say he does it justice would be a severe understatement! Let’s talk about why!

So, firstly, the beat is the critically acclaimed beat by Harry Fraud (off the Ransom album Lavish Misery’s opening track), and the beat, as I’m sure you’ve all heard, features those smooth guitars, methodical drums, delicate keys, and the very subtle yet gorgeous vocal harmony that gives a breath of fresh air to the whole track!

It’s a beat that’s made its rounds since last year, so I’m sure everyone is already familiar with it, but still, it doesn’t hurt to give a quick refresher for the ones who haven’t heard it in a while!

Now, unlike the original, this time we have the MC Jhiakhana doing an organic freestyle over this classic beat, and boy does he GO OFF!

From the first bar to the last, it’s just epic one-liners, dope phrases, double entendres, and more! I love how many wrestling references there are! Especially towards the end! Double especially that last line ‘On my way to 8 figures, like that Charlotte flair lock’— perfect closer line.

On the wrestling bars side, he just sounds the best he’s sounded in a minute. He sounds confident and powerful! Re assured and sharp on the track! His flow is smooth, his energy supreme, and his charisma, enthusiasm, and conviction are all at an all-time high (especially for a free style).

I love the aura he’s riding on this track! I love how natural it feels. You can tell he’s reached a new pinnacle otherwise foreign to him, and from what I’ve heard is coming down the pipeline, I can’t be any more excited for what’s to come!

So, get off your seats, find this track on whatever DSP you use, and experience the magic!

(BELFORT BANK TIES)

Holy shit, what a collection of MC’s on one track! This just came up on my Spotify algorithm and hit me like a shot to the face! I couldn’t believe my eyes and so of course with a powerhouse single roster like this, I had to cover it!

This is the latest single produced by ARNAM and features

– Estee Nack

– Maze Overlay

– Solute

And man, this thing is 3 minutes and 25 seconds of pure undeniable hip-hop fun! Let’s start with that instrumental.

This beat has a real disco meets rap feel to it. You’ve got those sci-fi feel synth vibe chords in continuous progression with those mellow almost subtle claps in the background that give the funky beat its extra satisfying boom!

This is the perfect song for showcasing MC’s, there’s no weird beat skip or switch up to ruin the vibe, nothing but pure hypnotic production to keep you plugged in and focused on the 3 superb verses presented to you!

On that topic, these 3 have such a fantastic chemistry and one I never would have thought of had this track not shown me otherwise!

We start the song off with the one and only Estee Nack! The man who has made a career off his bi-lingual splash rhythm where he has complete freedom on the beats, his iconic freelance flow where his words and phrases land wherever and whenever he wants to! Pair that with his trademark street charisma and this verse becomes yet another masterclass in rhythm and performance!

Speaking of masterclass, next up is one of my personal favourites Maze Overlay! The man with an album consistency longer than most discographies! He’s back on this track with his trademark smooth and compelling delivery with that iconic Arizona swag! He moves through this beat like a man who knows he’s the top dog and just out here doing side missions!

As calm and collected as his verses are, they are simultaneously razor sharp with his lethal vocabulary, his genius one-liners and phrases as well as his perfect rhythm and flow that makes him THE MAN to beat!

To close the track off, we have Solute who blasts the track off with his intense and passionate performance, with high energy and conviction! A more explosive delivery than the last two and equally as impressive!

I love how he has this specific style of wordplay where at the end of every second bar, he’ll pronounce the final word with a massive bang at the end! Like the real-life equivalent of capitals lowercase! It’s captivating and had me waiting for each time and what word he was going to let it off on!

He’s like a lyrical juggernaut running through the finish line with the microphone baton handed by Maze and blitz through the lap while leaving a trail of fire on both ends of the field!

As expected, this was a fantastic performance by all involved! From that infectious beat to the energy of all three men! This is a single for the ages!

(Fund-The-Mental)

I’ve noticed something. Whenever this MC is active, shit takes a glorious and spiritual turn for the record! We heard him last alongside Recognize Ali on ‘The Past, The Present And The Future’ and now he’s back taking care of business solo and creating another absolute BANGER! Let’s talk about it!

This is the brand new album by MC veteran Tragedy Khadafi and Producer DJ Supa Dave, and together they release a fresh 13 tracks with 31 minutes of content and the likes of

-J.SOS

-Ali Vegas

-Blaq Poet to help elevate the record, which is already absolutely stunning in its execution! Let me explain.

When talking about the production on this album, it’s defined by big, grand, and atmospheric sounds and instrumentals that speak substance further than music! But a spiritual, emotional, and definite message that can be felt by the listeners!

For example, the track ‘Nelson Mandela’ which features these long, eloquent keys with hypnotic drums and the occasional deep keyboard keys that give this track that extra hint of depth!

It’s this type of methodical and surreal sonic structure that makes every word accompanied feel 100x heavier!

Or let’s look at the track ‘Jesus H Christ’. On this song, we have Supa execute a more lively and expressive version with funky guitar strings, drum patterns, and synth-style notes delivered in the background with some finely tuned cuts and scratches to give it that extra touch of flavour!

When DJ Supa Dave gets behind the beat, he ain’t just making music; he’s a super chemist inventing life-changing experiences that the fans will keep with them forever! Absolutely unreal work!

Now, onto Tragedy. In a similar context to Supa, he also is one of those MC’s (as mentioned in the intro) who makes every breath he takes in the studio one of deeper impact, importance, and conviction. He ain’t the type of rapper to just say things for the sake of it, but one to think about what he’s going to say and preach it to the world.

Let’s use the track ‘Nelson Mandela’ for example. Not only was the beat intense, but so were the lyrics! As he discusses the fucked-up situations of so many men who met their end in suspicious and dangerous circumstances, that was no doubt done by the higher-ups to swerve the uprising to a different reaction.

But that track isn’t the exception; across every track, he’s here spreading a specific message depending on the track and is bent on making sure he drills into the listeners the importance of the words he’s saying and the sermons he’s delivering.

He has one of the most powerful voices and pen game in the industry (being a big reason as to why his duo with Ali was so successful) because of his ability, unwavering energy, and commitment to his opinions and convictions.

It’s a no-brainer that his flow is on point; fantastic rhythm and lyricism are all above the rest as he uses the 31 minutes in nothing short of a phenomenal performance to enhance the minds and souls of the fans.

From the production, to the features, to the man himself, this is everything you could want from a hip-hop record. It’s deep, compelling, banging, and raw all in one! Make sure you go check this one out because you won’t be the same person you were coming into it!

(World War/Paint)

It’s that time of the month again, the blood is flowing! Of course, I’m talking about the monthly release schedule between one of two men who seem to be on a challenge to outdo each other with 12 albums for the year, and with each one sounding doper than the last, there’s no reason to be worried and more just excited! So let’s talk about it!

This is the brand-new album by MC’s P-Ro and OGBenGrimm, while being produced by UglyJon, and this collective drops 10 tracks, 25 minutes, and features the other man in competition in G-Fam Black!

Now, the production on this one is exactly how the artwork represents IT’S TOUGH! This is the kind of album you play when you’re trying to get those extra reps in! This is a pocket-sized shot of adrenaline with enough raw instrumentation to keep you stunned for days!

I’m talking distorted synth chords, sadistic drum partners, eerie strings, and haunting keys, as well as boom bap-influenced grit and muddy bass and beats to keep you with a daily scrunched-up face, mean-mugging the world, and you won’t be able to control it after this!

If they used this album as war anthems, the armies would never lose. Too much murderous intent, conviction, and killer instincts wrapped up in this 25 minutes to cause a massacre! I love how even though there’s a minimalistic and skeletal vibe to this record, the heavy-handed instrumentation and atmosphere elevate this record to a whole new level that is dripping with violence, quality, and depth!

As far as the MC work goes, you know P-Ro and OGBenGrimm don’t PLAY! Both men have well-tested chemistry with many albums where they rap together, and so they have that natural synchronicity and same mind in the studio, but even so, it feels like both men have brought the music to a whole new level with even more intense performances!

From incredible wordplay, ‘grim’ pen game. Phenomenal flow and devastatingly effective rhythm and energy on the tracks to make you feel like you’re listening to partners in crime who are ready to rob the culture and take no names!

The few skits also confirm this narrative and feel as if it makes you feel like you’re listening to a spaghetti western type war flick.

Accompanying the duo is the man himself, G Fam Black, on the track ‘The Levitz Yard’, and this track of course goes SAVAGE because anytime he’s on the mic, he causes sonic earthquakes with his ridiculous and devastating energy, aura, and monstrous power in his words! Always a treat to hear!

This is definitely another solid release by P-Ro! Hasn’t taken an L yet! Alongside OGBen and UglyJon, they bring that next-level aggression that is sure to satisfy everyone in the culture!

(Scaffold Match)

So, it turns out this new aggressive sound isn’t just a one-and-done for the Penlordz! It seems to be here to stay, and let me just say if that’s the case, I’m all for it. How else to better express that aggression than by processing your inner

ANIMAL AND HAWK!

This is the brand-new single by Penlordz members Audio Messiah and Fam Ross with regular producer Da Grand Hova on the beat, and this thing is two minutes and 40 seconds of pure, unadulterated, ruthless aggression that is peak from start to finish!

Right off the bat, we got those sharp chords peering through the track with those hypnotic drums and ridiculous bass hard enough to jump out of the beat and give you a clothesline from hell!

Across this beat, we have a ton of adlibs and wrestling references that are scattering all the way through the song, making it as frequent as the instrumental itself to further push that ‘gritty’ and ‘muddy’ influence and atmosphere!

This track definitely symbolises ‘The Legion Of Doom’ perfectly. It’s brash, harsh, unpredictable, and daunting! All the elements necessary to encapsulate the aura and scary nature of the duo! Couldn’t have asked for a better beat to represent them!

Now onto the Penlordz. What a rush indeed! These two come into the underground with the legend of the Legion themselves. Tough, unshakable, and determined to cause mayhem wherever they go!

Each man carries with him a vocabulary of steel chairs, barbwire bats, and tables ready to punish any naive MC ready to test them!

From one man to the next, there’s no mercy, no love lost, just pure sonic annihilation from two of the most dominant pairings who are also part of the trio faction more critically acclaimed than The Shield and Undisputed Era combined!

Straight bars and sinister flows, vicious pen game, and when they’ve decided their opponents have had enough, torture they climb the proverbial scaffold, lift the wack MC’s on their shoulders, and get ready to land the final blow with the sonic equivalent of the ‘Doomsday device’.

Make sure you don’t even THINK about ignoring this track! OHHH WHAT A RUSH!

(Jabpocalypto)

After hearing the ‘SLIME STEW 2’ album, it seems my Spotify algorithm hooked me up to this one, and I gotta give the platform credit for this link-up! So let’s talk about it!

This is the 2024 release by MC Primo Jab and producer godBLESSbeatz, featuring 11 tracks with the likes of

-Phonk P

-LORD JAH-MONTE OGBON

-Starz Coleman

-Waterr

-Snotty

With a powerhouse roster like this, these two were sure to strike lava, and that’s exactly what happened! Pure magic.

Right off the bat, I gotta give extra shoutout to my man Primo Jab because anytime he’s on the record, he’s always sounding like a man trying to do ‘a little more’ than everyone else! It’s so fascinating to me.

From his unique delivery to his album names, to his album covers, to his skits and interludes, this man is like the mad scientist of the underground. Always trying this with that, adding X into Y to see what it makes, and his mentality into music is so fascinating and amazing to me because there is truly no one like him!

This proves the same on this album where he delivers his trademark energetic and funky performances that’s full of flavour, charisma, and enough creativity to feed the whole culture 2x over!

I love how smooth and effortless he makes his bars, and his pen game is quirky, introspective, and different from the rest! He’s light on his feet, gliding through the beats like planes in the clouds and cutting off the heads of haters in the process with his sharp wordplay!

Every verse is unpredictable, and you don’t know what you’re gonna get! Whether that be high-powered vivid verses or serious and gritty bars, he has and can do it all! Like the Willy Wonka of the underground (in the best way possible), a man who keeps you guessing to the very end!

As I stated before, the features are heavy, and as talented as Primo is, he keeps his head above water and stands tall amongst his underground brothers, and they all showcase tremendous chemistry in delivering fantastic performances together!

As far as the beats go, GodBLESS once again proves why he’s a dominant force in this production game. These are probably some of the most fresh and diverse beats I’ve heard him make!

Let’s take a look at some!

The track ‘AnuthaDay’ with those wavering high-pitch vocals on loop and those UFO-style chords and hypnotic drums makes for a song you’d hear if you were kidnapped by aliens!

There’s the track ‘Landmines’, which is one of the more gritty cuts on the record, straight boom bap blueprint. You have those long, elongated chords with those skeletal drums and the occasional subtle keys in the background!

This is the type of track you can listen to before you rob a bank! Real gangsta shit!

But then he has cuts like ‘Penalties & Consequences’, which sounds like hip hop mixed with a haunted house experience. You’ve got those creepy and eerie piano keys methodically played, thudding bass lines, and slow-paced drums.

This is the type of serial killer shit you’d hear right before Jason Voorhees comes behind you to stab you! Absolutely insane (and Starz adds his own massacre on this track).

Even the way the album ends is interesting! ‘Loose Ends’, which has this majestically done vocal harmony, delicate keys, and groovy bass to create what is a more bare and minimal take on a new age boom bap track that is absolutely stunning! (Also, Snotty murders this verse!)

Overall, man, this is a solid project. GodBLESS has never sounded better, Primo with his original delivery insane, and the features brought their best food forward! If you haven’t heard it yet, make sure you go back and do!

(Solider In A Garden)

This has to be one of the most exciting drops of the month! After one of the best albums already a few months back, now we have this. By a man who has proven himself time and time again, whether that be in studio albums or feature tracks, as a man to watch out for, and now he’s back to giving the culture the lesson in the REAL hip hop. Let’s peep in!

This is the brand new album by MC Red Amandala, who I first discovered on Al Divino’s EP’s and now has become one of my favourites! Alongside him today are producers from his usual suspects, ‘AbbotJackson’, to others such as

-bb

-Demetri47

And MC’s such as

-Swizzy

-Ty27

-al divino

After listening to this album, I’m reminded of why I love Red’s music. His brand of lyricism is always so introspective and personalised that it makes me feel like I’m listening to a man sharing his diary or journal with us, as well as his pure, unadulterated thoughts, as if he’s not actually writing bars as much as he is just talking!

Bars like ‘Both my I may be the one to change the world and I’ve never held a tech’ or ‘I was dumb bent as fuck as a teenager’

He’s expressing himself and the world around him (as he sees it), from admissions to self-doubt to flexing to social commentary on society, he’s giving us a real-life perspective of the world today, and it’s refreshing!

I love how he always has fresh and calm demeanours with strong conviction and powerful words that just like the opening track feel like a preacher in the booth! He’s confident in his art, precise, and intelligent! The ultimate trifecta!

He’s always got smooth flow, strong lyricism, and a solid pen game that makes him feel unique and separated from the rest in the game! Absolutely intriguing performances!

The MC’s involved do a great job at maintaining the energy and vibe of the record. You know me, I always love the ‘less is more’ strategy, and this is done the best here!

As far as the production goes. Once again absolutely incredible. We have AbbotJackson producing six of the ten tracks here, and his influence is strong! Just like their last record together, he provides smooth, fluent, and ambient music that touches the soul!

It’s music that’s sonically refreshing. With harmonious chords, light drums, delicate keys, and overall atmospheric instrumentation that screams ‘ambiance’ in the best way possible. It kind of feels like late 80s synth pop elements infused with underground hip hop, and for me, that’s a beautiful working relationship because I love both genres!

The other producers on the record are amazing as well! They help provide that aura-filled vibe with delicate beats and mesmerising that fill your heart and ears at the same time! There’s no awkward transition or obvious sign of producers changing, which is a key thing because it means everyone worked together in harmony, and it’s phenomenal!

Man, once again, this is a Red album you can’t afford to miss! This is the true essence of hip hop, and if you’re against this, you’re against real hip hop!

(Transits)

Sometimes you don’t need anyone but yourself to rock the boat. This man has had a killer 2025 already, and now he’s decided to take a deep breath, a break from everyone else, and focus on himself and present to the culture something different and memorable! Let’s talk about it!

This is the brand-new EP by MC and beatmaker Mike Martinez. Featuring five songs with 13 minutes of content, and I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for this one! Considering how consistently he’s been killing it this year, to hear a solo EP is something that equally impressed and intrigued me!

Right off the bat, we hear Mike go the classic approach with influences from the late 90s and early to mid-2000s in construction.

For example, on the track ‘Neptunes in Aries’, we have a track that reminds me of either mid-career Nas or early-career Immortal Technique!

You’ve got those classical jazz-inspired chords looping with those minimalist drum patterns! The perfect kind of beat to use to showcase one’s lyrical ability, and that’s exactly what Mike does. Nothing but two minutes of solid bars, introspective bars, and quality pen game!

On track 2, ‘Jupiter Cazimi’, we have a track that sonically reminds me of 2005 G Unit or Mobb Deep. A beat I’d expect to hear on the ‘Blood Money’ record.

Those fast-paced, lively chords in a repetitive loop and those slow, methodical drums with those delicate keys appearing in those transition moments! Very catchy and infectious track with Mike sounding a bit more lively and fresh on this track, with him confidently talking his shit and reminding everyone why he’s the man with his smooth flow and rhythm structure!

Track 3, ‘Mercury Retrograde’, takes us to a 90s-inspired sound, with it reminding me of a Big Pun or Gang Starr-influenced track with those long-executed synth chords and thick and rough drum

patterns! Very hypnotic and mesmerising!

This track acts as more of an interlude with no actual written verses but more a spoken word passage for the star sign of ‘Mercury’, very interesting listen!

Track 4 ‘Taurus Rising’ feels like the one track that is actually sonically inspired by the modern-day boom bap landscape! Those elongated strings, slow-paced drums, and overall minimalist feel to the whole thing! It’s gritty, dark, and melodic in its own rugged way! Reminds me of an early Griselda or Reek Osama type track!

On this track, we hear Mike sounding more introspective than usual. He sounds like a poet who’s sitting in the studio with a pen and a bottle of whisky, just spewing out what’s on his head alongside this acoustic-type beat! His rhythm is more slow and methodically performed like a warning speech to the world!

On the final track ‘Lion’s Gate’, we see Mike closing off the track in the most theatrical way possible! From that thrilling opening spoken word to the evolving of the beat with those classic/opera elements of those high-strung strings and surreal drums, as if he has a live band in the studio with him! I can’t really compare this track to anyone else; it’s just grand in every sense of the word!

We hear Mike closing off the EP in style, with big energy, high enthusiasm, and performance. He ain’t leaving this finale without talking his superior shit, and he does just that! Sharp lyricism, god flow, and introspective vibes that have him reminiscing about the world and his place in it!

Overall, another solid drop by Martinez! He hasn’t missed yet, and he just proved he doesn’t need anybody to make his shit pop!

(HDXMM ACT II)

Before I even touch on the music, I feel these collaboration projects go deeper than rap. Really think about it, how often is real ‘woman power’ in music, let alone Hip Hop, apparent? How much do you see female MC’s work with either other female MC’s or producers?

It’s such a rarity to see outside of the ‘TLC, Destiny’s Child’ days that the women’s division always feels so separated from each other, and I feel that gives this album and the one who came before it that UNITY!

Brand new sequel to the earlier done HDXMM ACT Part I featuring MC Honey Dinero and Producer MURDA MEGZ, and together they drop a fresh six tracks with only one feature, another female MC, in Bernadette Price!

I can’t front, I love everything about this record. I love the grittiness behind the production that reminds the listener of the 90s East Coast Hip Hop Scene with those loud and powerful instruments, cuts, and flips on the beat! MURDA MEGZ is showcasing further her evolution in this game with making this six-track project feel like a full-length LP in stature, atmosphere, and execution!

I love the intensity this album brings to the table, not in the sense of boom bap or over-the-top sinister or dark lanes of rap but more that hungry, in-your-face no-nonsense beats that you’d hear on prime HOV back in the day or from the likes of Gang Starr or Mobb Deep, true authentic and organic street tapes that are sure to be played in the car, windows open, fat blunt rolled up!

When we talk about the MC skills, we see Honey also upgrading her own abilities and skills on the record, as I’ve found her to be doing all this year! From her verse on the ‘Van Gunz’ latest record, which I felt was the best I’ve ever heard her, period. To the other previous album from this one, she has consistently upped her game and levelled up to such a degree that she’s become a whole new best of an MC!

I love her confidence, her natural swagger, her flow and pen game across this record! Love her flexing and talking her shit and most importantly I love her chemistry with Murda!

They are re-creating the expectations and normalities of women in the hip-hop game by doing these regular collaborations and showcasing just how powerful an all-female record features, producers and all can be! And let me tell you that it’s phenomenally done!

I don’t think much shows that better than the track ‘The Sweet Price’ featuring the one and only Bernadette Price and to have that trio of women working together to create that banger of a track was magic to the ears!

To me THIS is the REAL wave of feminism the culture should be embracing. Yes I support any woman in any profession or medium that stands out solo for doing great things BUT shouldn’t unity be the goal? Why can’t women be collaborating and featuring at the same frequency as the men? That’s the real answer I want and these two women here are not only dropping classic records but they are changing the way we work within the culture one record at a time!
