(Fudōshin)

Today we’ve got an interesting EP to talk about! This man is someone who I only discovered the other day, but one who seems to have created something unique with a sound that seems to be just one of his own! So with that in mind, let’s dive deep into it!

This is the brand-new EP by MC Matic and Producer Lincoln King, and with six tracks and 18 minutes of content, this one doesn’t waste any time getting the energy and atmosphere up and rolling!

Right off the bat, I want to discuss this man’s rapping style. First thing to jump out to me is his impression Bi-Lingual lyricism. Across all the tracks, he fluently goes between the two languages of English and Spanish, which is quite ironic that I discovered this man when I did because on the same day I had just finished reviewing an album by Estee Nack, who is really

the only other man I could think of who can pull off such an extensive fluency in the Bi-lingual category!

I’d say Matic’s approach is fresh and compelling. He sounds like what Pitbull thinks he sounds like! There’s no awkward transition between the two, just clear, cut, and precise timing that makes it ever so fun to listen to (even if I don’t know a lick of Spanish). His mastery of both languages makes it impossible not to love!

That aside, this man shows some dope and powerful performances! There’s a strong sense of conviction in his words. He kind of reminds me of earlyZack de La Rocha from Rage Against the Machine! He has the same intensity and focus that he used to have in the earlier records, which I found compelling!

Not to mention some songs likeKi that repeat the chorus line, paying homage to the pattern of repeating the words for a more deep meaning that Rage did!

I also love that he tries his hand at the occasional harmonic/singing style across the EP. Not in a full-fledged singing but a more mellow and subtle approach that gives his tracks an extra sense of texture! Also, I love his versatility in his flow and precise penmanship to create an overall immersive listening experience!

Speaking of Immersion, we have the production which perfectly balances the intensity of the wordplay with its own unique and engaging instrumentation that often feels surreal and methodical in its execution. Whether we are talking about tracks like

-Ki where we hear the combination of those wavering strings, minimal drum patterns, and subtle keys that make for a stripped-back yet eye-catching track that is used as a platform for Matic to go off on!

Or the track -Tamashii where we hear classical meets hip hop with those grand jazz horns and those escalating chord progressions combined with those hypnotic drum patterns that all come together to create this 1950’s vibe instrumental that feels both intense and beautiful in its structure!

Hell, what about the track -Jikan (the final track) where we hear more of a traditional hip hop track with the combination of those plucked strings, mesmerising drum beats, and light bass that all come together to create a 90’s era experience that I can imagine all my childhood favourites rapping on!

I found it quite interesting that they chose arguably the most trademark track for the finale! It’s definitely memorable and dope in its formation!

Look, for a pair of artists I just discovered today, this shit is hella dope! It ain’t like anything I’ve heard this year and it walks its own path! Link down below, make sure you give it a try!
