Some I swear I’ve seen from the ground up and make a whole identity and personality for themselves in this rap game and this man shines that more than most! And with this brand new offering he comes in with no hesitation just straight FIRE! Let’s go!
This is the brand new EP by MC and Producer Big V! He takes it upon himself to create this 4-track sampler pack that is sure to enrage your appetite craving more! Let’s unpack it!
Firstly let’s talk production aspect! There are 4 different flavours that come with the tracks. Starting with the first one – Courtesy Of Myself which has this almost tribal chanting vibe with those spacy and atmospheric vocal harmonies in that mysterious vibe that’s accompanied by those rhythmic drum patterns, and thick bass with the occasional key tone that makes this a minimal yet powerful instrumental!
This is the kind of shit I imagine they were singing when Black Panther got his special herbs up in Wakanda!
Track 2 – Other Than Dat he goes to his classic TRAP VIBE! I’m talking OG Young Jeezy, Gucci, era! You’ve got those glistening keys, that strong bass, those vibrant chord progressions and heavy drums! Nah he’s on that ‘I ain’t playing type shit’ with this one! It’s no nonsense, strong and to the point just how the sub genre was supposed to be!
Track 3 – Troubled Waters he goes on a quick mellow soulful excursion with those absolutely gorgeous vocal harmonies that just warm your soul up! On top of that we have those groovy drums and piano keys that wrap this whole track together into one of the most delicate and yet favoured track I’ve heard all year! The type of song you could hear for months on end and never get sick of!
Track 4 -Ain’t Trippin’ he decided to end this on a bit of an introspective bang. As we hear this track with those background sharp chord progressions, deep bass, and a thudding drum. Rather minimal, but it’s a track meant to open up and talk about experience and expression! Such as his early career thoughts about working with Jay-Z and Dr. Dre and how his career has come since! It’s a nice thought-provoking track!
Speaking of lyricism, I’ve literally never heard V sound better! This man across these four showcases a different side of confidence and demeanour that I had yet to see from him! He’s upped his own mental to a new plane, and he wants to show it off!
Depending on the track, you’ll get a different side of him! A more aggressive and raw fighter version on the first two tracks with wordplay like ‘When I wanna go swimming, make my wife squirt’ that’s some boss-ass bars right there! Plus the one I used above for the intro of this review. It feels like he’s got a different sense of priorities and vision for how he wants his career to go, and that we are merely seeing the beginning of it!
Workhorse mentality, sharp mind, incredible hustle, and swagger. It’s insane to me how he mentioned how he wishes he was picked by the likes of Jay and Dre, yet he’s showcasing the same behaviours that those men have to get to where they are! Trust me, bro, it will only be a matter of time before you get yours based on your progress here!
