It’s always a pleasure to discover new artists, especially ones that spit as hard as these ones! If this is a teaser for what’s coming next, I can’t imagine what the full length will sound like! Let’s talk about why.
This is the brand-new single by MC PTTHEODDFATHER and Producer Supreme Clientele, and together they drop a full-fledged 1 minute and 58 seconds of pure hip hop that will leave you wanting more!
Let’s start off with the production value. We have Supreme who showcases this mellow, smooth, and engaging instrumental that consists of these light vocal harmonies that go throughout the intro and continue throughout the whole song with those funky bass lines, delicate piano keys, and the occasional drum beat that helps add to the layers of spontaneous instrumentation that play on this one.
Every part feels lively and sporadic. There doesn’t seem to be a set pattern or structure; sounds will just come when they come and help maintain a sense of surprise to the track that I actually adore! It’s not easy to pull this style off without it sounding clunky and awkward, but I can safely say Supreme makes this not only memorable but fun!
As far as the MC work goes, we hear a man who spends the entirety of the near 2 minutes showing us his skill and experience behind the mic, and I gotta tell you I was definitely impressed.
I loved his fluency on the beat; he has some witty and clever wordplay with his one-liners, built-up bars that don’t give you the answer until after 2-3 sentences!
He has a combination of both methodical and fast-paced somehow at the same time. I think it’s because just like the beat, he’s trying to be spontaneous and switch up depending on his vibe at any given time (which is definitely a dope concept).
His lyricism reminds me of the old-school 2000s underground era back when the main focus was the vocabulary over the song itself. Something I feel is lost to most artists today, but it feels so refreshing to hear an MC spit nothing but complex paragraphs to showcase his exceptional penmanship and sharp intellect!
