I was lucky enough to get wind of this album a few days ago by Ceverely Yours himself. Teasing a project with this MC, one who I’ve had experience with, and he’s decided to pair himself with a producer who is one of the few I can say is Mormon like me! Anyway, with that in mind, let’s talk about this new album!
This is the brand-new record by MC Ant Kelly and producer Jamis, and together they drop a solid 10-track album with the likes of
-Ceverely Yours
-Jamis
-FLYG
And with this trio, Ant comes in strong and as free as he’s ever sounded. That’s the thing about his rapping style; he never sounds ‘corporate’ or ‘washed’. He’s one of the most genuine names in the underground because of his timeless, restless behaviour on the mic that makes each rap feel exciting and must-listen to, and it’s that specific style and excitement that got me into his shit to begin with!
Funny enough, when I first heard an EP or album of his, he was on some bully rap shit, but now he’s evolved his style to become more fluent, more clear, wild, and unconfined! I’m so happy he made that switch because I prefer this version of him a lot more!
From his lyricism to his passion, conviction, and thirst for creativity that rivalled anyone else in the game right now!
I love how he utilised Ceverely Yours! As I’ve come to find out, he has the talent to turn any interlude or intro into a cinematic story or performance, so very smart for these two to combine!
Also, how can I forget Jamis! He’s not only a dope producer but a hell of an MC. We see him match Ant’s relentless aura with his own more calm yet equally precise and sharp penmanship as he uses a handful of these tracks to go bar for bar with Ant!
As far as the production goes, Jamis really goes above and beyond on this one. He brings to life a high-energy, sci-fi-inspired hip-hop score that has no boring aspect. Each track feels like its own self-contained adventure with smooth sounds, soulful melodies, and gorgeous instrumentation that comes together to make absolute bliss.
If I had to pinpoint some of my favourite beats, I’d have to include the following.
-THEAMI$HMARKET on this track, we hear those luscious yet powerful horns combined with those thudding drums and deep, almost dirty bass that come together in this perfectly crafted minimal instrumental that feels organic regardless! Those horns really do justice to the track!
-FREEMY$OUL has this chaotic vibe with those wild chord progressions in that fast-paced motion that’s combined with those sharp strings and drums hiding in the middle of all that music explosion!
There’s also the track -APPLEPRODUCT$ which has a more mellow vibe than some others. With this one, there’s those slow-paced jazz horns that’s combined with some methodical chord progressions and a slight use of rhythmic keys! I can’t put my finger on why this track speaks to me, but it does! It’s almost eerie in its execution, which makes it stand out!
A combination I was expecting to be dope from the start. But add Ceverely in the mix? And that’s what you call culture end game. If you don’t believe me, check it for yourself below! Shoutout to -FLYG for his verse on track 8!
