Pick Up What I’m Droppin

I’d love to find out just how many new artists I’ve discovered this year alone! Because it feels like each week I discover a few more names that open my eyes to the scale of the underground! With that in mind let’s talk about this!

This is the brand new single by MC/Producer -Unc Doe as he brings an almost three minute track to the forefront of the underground and bringing a nostalgic mid 2000’s vibe with him! Let me explain
If we talk that performance style he defines ‘raw’ I loved how he presents himself on this instrumental as it reminds me of that 2000’s era where rappers still had to focus on dope bars and solid presentation in order to make waves! In this case he reminds me of a mix between 50 Cent and Jay-Z! He’s got that straight forward delivery mixed with a potent street swagger and fluent flow with bars that land exactly where they should across the beat!

He doesn’t stop until the song ends, filling it up with non stop verses, clever puns and vivid hood tales as well as his own personal opinion on the current game and how legitimate (or otherwise) they are! He’s not afraid to speak his mind and it shows! Gritty cadence, eccentric vocals and enough skill to rock with the prime era of Hip-Hop he’s a real problem!

Now in discussing the Production side of things we go back to that soulful & powerful Atlanta southern rap style that we use to hear from the likes of -Kanye West & -Twista!
I’m talking that chipmunk style vocal loops that’s combined with those tweaked & plucked strings combined with those thick bass lines to create a stripped back instrumental that feels a lot more surreal then the amount layers actually present!
This song is also laced with various sound effects and Adlibs to create an even more stellar atmosphere that feels grand in scale!

This definitely feels like a cut from ‘College Dropout’ era Kanye. It’s smooth, beautifully crafted and mesmerising in its simplicity! Sometimes less is more and that’s what Unc is proving to us on this track!
