This is not a drill! After already stacking up a solid discography in the past few years alone, we have a return to one of the most solid artists I’ve come across! A man with a mind unlike most, and now he’s back to flaunt it! Let’s talk about it!
This is a new album by MC Renaissance J and Producer Hagakure with -Kaleo Jacobs as the solo feature. This might be the grooviest 17 minutes you’ll hear in 2026! Let’s talk about why!
Firstly, can we discuss that production? Because god damn this cat Hagakure killed it again! Across these seven tracks, we see him on some magnum opus shit as he lights the room up with some of the most compelling beats I’ve heard from him yet.
Let’s talk about a few of them. We can discuss the track -Terrance Crawford as we hear a combination of those hellish, what sounds like distorted string progressions that I first mistook for some heavy reverb vocal harmonies! But that put together with some plucked strings and light drum work that came together to create this absolutely madness in hip-hop form that’s equal parts eerie and powerful!
There’s the track -IDGAF which has this 1960s old-school vibe to it that has a certain bounce to it! It feels a bit merry, like a walk on a fine summer’s day! It’s got those groovy chord progressions, some repeating organ arrangements, and some purely methodical drums. This track has a teleporting effect to it that I loved! It’s smooth, gorgeous, and electric! Not to mention Kaleo’s dope and infectious verse!
Even the first track -Throw The MJ On which has this heaviness to it that I adored! The grime of those distorted strings, low-key jazz horns in the background, rhythmic drums, and sickening bass that all play their role to create one of the most mesmerising tracks on the whole album!
As far as the MC work is concerned, Renaissance J shows us why he’s one of the dopest out right now, and I can safely say it matches the aesthetic of the production to a tee! From that colourful charisma to the verbal excellence, they should call my man the sharpshooter because he’s pink with that vocabulary shit!
Across these seven tracks, we hear the man shines like the fucking sun but with bars. From his dope one-liners to his impressive way with words that makes him feel like he ain’t even taking a breath on the whole album! Just 17 minutes of nonstop spitting that even made me sweat!
Not only that, his flow is infectious; his experience and years in the game have made him a master of knowing where each word is supposed to be placed, the perfect timing to place his paragraphs so that they hit the hardest. This is some shit you don’t buy, you LEARN! And he’s quickly (if he hasn’t already) become one of the toughest spitters in the culture today!
I love his presence on the mic, his advanced use of penmanship, his ability to draw the listeners in with his passion and love for the craft helps make each song feel that much more bombastic!
And the one song with the feature definitely feels elevated. Kaleo is one of those men who can work well with just about anyone! So to hear the two of them coming together was bound to be fire, and it showed throughout the track!
