We already have a new album by this man. And switching roles to rapping? What kind of demon time is he on! How the hell does he drop one of the craziest production albums and then a week later drop this? This is why he’s considered one of the best out right now, especially because of SHIT LIKE THIS. Is this a bad time? Apparently not for him! Let’s talk about it!
This is the surprise new drop by MC/Producer DOZA THE DRUM DEALER and Producer Work Scorsese! With curation from 17th Cipher! This one has features from
-Osyrus
-Mar
-Dax Mpire
-Liym Capital
And I want to discuss Work first. He’s a man who I feel goes under the radar far too much considering his legacy so far and the albums he’s helped drop! From the -God Complex trilogy to work with the likes of Hank Dope and Reek Osama! He’s a lethal producer with truckloads of talent and ideas to run with, and that speaks for itself on this one!
First of all, I love that constant beat signature ‘Catch you fuckers at a bad time?’ It gives the album an old-school feel to it that I loved. And across this tape, he has so many interesting choices for beats that only would work thanks to him! For example, on track -WITHDRAWL, he uses some kind of looping alarm sound. What a wild sample to use! Makes me PTSD over my
morning phone alarm! That’s accompanied by some light vocal harmony, sharp strings, and methodical drums.
There’s the track -G.F.Y, which has those dramatically done Jazz Horns combined with those bass lines and drums that are ever so subtle! This track feels like the definition of ‘noir’, whatever that’s meant to represent this song embodies!
I also love that intro track because it’s easily the most soulful and mellow track on the album. From those slightly chipmunk vocal snippets with those gorgeously freelance keys and that funky bass and chord progression with that rhythmic drums! There’s a bit going on in this song that felt this one feel special and spectacular as ever!
I feel like this has to be re-clarified. Just a week ago (if that), Doza just dropped one of the most killer soundtracks of the year, and he’s back this quick? That is ridiculous. If I had made even one song on that whole score, I’d be making the same status daily.Remember when I made that fire song? I’m the GOAT; my ego would inflate to ridiculous heights.
But what does Doza do? Progress to switching up and doing rap verses! That level of talent and dedication should keep the culture on edge as he’s taking over the game!
On this one, we get to hear his trademark original, one-of-a-kind style! The type that doesn’t follow traditional rules or fashion. The way he spits his bars so casually and doesn’t worry about word on beat placement makes him sound fluent and smooth in his own distinctive way!
From his versatile pen game to his unique brash bars that are so innovative that it’s hard to ignore, or the way he’s comfortable shorting words to match his verse flow. He doesn’t play any rules in this hip-hop game, and that’s why he’s so compelling to me!
Always the biggest personality in the room. His creativity feels endless. A charisma that’s too big to contain and a passion for the game that can literally be felt throughout your body! It’s the fact that he never tries to follow trends or copy anyone else or do anything but himself. I seek out the creative for a reason! These are the standard bearers in our culture, and he’s at the top of the list!
Gotta shoutout the features as they play a part in the design and execution of the album! With dope verses and being able to match the energy of someone like DOZA is no easy feat, and yet they pulled it off here!
Another solid project by DOZA. His chemistry with 17th Cipher is always on point, and his chemistry with Work turned out phenomenal! An all-around outstanding performance by everyone involved! Check it out below now!
