It seems the name itself has perfectly described the vibe of the track! From the main MC to the guest to the producer, all names that are new to me, which makes me that much more excited to peep in! So let’s get into it!
This is the brand-new single by MC Abyss featuring fellow MC -Cyrus Da Zine and produced by -DC The Midi Alien with cuts towards the end by DJ Slipwax, and for an over-3-minute track, this one hits harder than most with an elegant yet powerful vibe that is straight BOOMING!
Let’s start with the MC work here. As I didn’t know what to expect going into this, I can safely say Abyss (who has a dope ass name) comes in hot with a style that I found smooth, crisp, and wavy in its verbal demeanour!
He ain’t loud or sporadic, just a man who seems to have a solid grasp on flow, pronunciation, timing, and keeping things trademark like in the old school!
Sometimes it ain’t about doing anything ridiculous for clout or attention but perfecting the basics and putting your own spin on things, and that’s what’s happening here!
The same can be said for the feature Midi. This man comes in strong with an equally smooth and swift verse that highlights his strong lyricism, compelling cadence with a more methodical pace and tone that makes every word feel important to keep your ear on! An insane amount of aura with this guy who gives off a slight -Aesop Rock feel but of course with his own original and in-depth style!
Now onto the beat, paying homage to the older school, I feel this instrumental plays the best of both worlds. Giving that 90’s flare with a strong sense of the modern-day techniques woven into it! You’ve got everything from that swaying chord progression that comes in every 5-7 seconds that sounds almost like a vocal harmony that’s been tweaked!
That with that hypnotic drum beats, light piano chords, and heavy bass! This all comes together to a nice, infectious beat that you could honestly listen to for hours and not get sick of!
I also love how they decided to spice up the end up with the use of -DJ Slipwax for some further homage to the latest 80’s/90’s style with those ridiculous cuts and scratches! As if the song wasn’t already tough, but to add that element blew this track sky high!
