The Serpent Tongue
When did to start working on this album? And did you reach out to Cusho or did he you?
Gustavo Louis
Think around April late March we were working on some other stuff if I remember correct think I asked him for a beat pack and he sent that at the time I was in the lab 🧫 and smoking and brain 🧠 in motion shout out to CzarHeel 🖼️ the homie sent me some art work for the masters and he sent me on the course swinging the Pyrex so I knew the cover Listen to the music he sent and the rest is history and I thought bug be only right being that we both connected with Cusho so masters was the first installment to kick off aping and 36th hole was to end summer if that makes sense plus the golf ⛳️ tournament was at the time
The Serpent Tongue
I know you’re quite the prolific artist but compared to the others you’ve dropped this year, what kind of message did you want this album to tell that the others didn’t?
Gustavo Louis
To listen close each project saying something but just want the listener to pay attention
The Serpent Tongue
It’s obvious to anyone who’s a fan of your work that you gravitate towards themed albums or remixes. What is it about these specific types of albums draws you to them? Instead of say sticking solely to more traditional drops!
Gustavo Louis
I strive to make different music and for each project to have some type of base and structure to go off of wanna give the listener a audio visual to what I’m saying like a motion picture and the producer provides the soundtrack
The Serpent Tongue
Whose idea was it to add that Ozzy Osbourne snippet in the second track? That is such an awesome sample!
Gustavo Louis
That’s all Cusho there he channeled in on his ozzy shit and I just bite the head off the bat
The Serpent Tongue
Are you really passionate about Golf? Or is this just a fun theme idea for you to rock with? If you are really interested in it, who’s your favourite golfer and why!
Gustavo Louis
I wouldn’t say passionate but I know a thing or two and like mini golf But it’s really a hidden gem and shoutout to the black cadddies who helped the maters win they knew the course with they eyes closed how the rain changed the ball etc and of course tiger he broke shit open and the legends Lee elder the first black to play in the masters
The Serpent Tongue
In my opinion the song ‘Four Iron/Ganghis Khan’ is the best song on this album for its lyrical content. Do you have a favourite song on this album to make and record? If so which one and why!
Gustavo Louis
Ummmm I like green jacket cause I think i deserve one but ganghis one of favorites as well the remix with bug Nelson is crazy!!!!!! Stayed hopefully Deluxe vinyl real soon and 36th hole
The Serpent Tongue
What made Bug Nelson the perfect sole feature for this record? Did you have others in mind but chose against it or couldn’t get a response to etc
Gustavo Louis
Choose bug Nelson cause we make beautiful ballads with Cusho so I kept in the circle of ours plus didn’t need to many on the course
The Serpent Tongue
Is this a type of themed album that you think could get become a series or just a once and done type deal?
Gustavo Louis
Good question this is technically part 2 to the masters so it could be a pt 3 let’s see where the ball land
The Serpent Tongue
If you were stranded on a desert island with only two albums from any genre to choose from for the rest of your life, what are you choosing and
Gustavo Louis
Damn just two Mmmmm purple tape Raekwon and something from Issac Hayes or Quincy jones so I could vibe and write as well and use the album sleeves for rolling papers
