It’s one of my favourite things to discover new talent who reach out or otherwise! The moment I think I’ve reached the wall of the underground I discover a new door that has infinitely more behind it and this is one of those examples, a producer and rapper who comes new to me until the end of this week and they are further proving why the independent scene is the place to be for quality! Let’s talk about it!

This is the brand new single by Producer -Whatafunk and MC -UNLearn The World and together they drop this just over 3 minute track that from the very beginning of the song had me intrigued! Why? Let me tell you.

When we discuss the production process we talk about an instrumental that has this haunting vibe to it that I found mesmerising! From those echoing sound loops mixed with those long winded keys that sounds like it came straight from an abandoned 1800’s church organ! As the song progresses we get hit in the face with those heavy handed drum patterns, thick bass and a continuous loop of those interlude sound bits and keys!
As the song moves into the chorus part we get this twang rhythm of plucked country strings! Gave off a bit of ‘redneck’ vibe to them that added a new type of texture to the track!

I love the intensity of the instrumental. The eerie mixed with boom bap atmosphere done at such a cold blooded level was not what I was expecting to hear out of this track but the more I listened to it the more this beat grew on me and I understood the meaning and purpose of the production it self!

As we discuss the rapping side of things, that’s where we get a rapper that the world can’t ’UNLEARN’ even if they tried. A man with a strong spirit and equally strong hip hop features that makes his presence even more powerful on this track!
Across this beat we hear UNLearn kick immediately into his sharp, raw, in your face studio dynamics that reminds me of that cold 90’s era back when lyricism and bars actually meant something!
He barely gives himself time to breathe on this shit, just heavy sentences, confident cadence with a slight brash tone that reminds me of cats from the old school like -Treach or -Ghostface Killah!

This song made for an incredible first impression for me. From that haunting production to the supreme lyricist behind the beat. If this is a future of things to come then count me in!
