(Food For Thought)

For some people, it only takes ONE single to gain all the hype in the world. Such is the case with this duo! From an MC formerly unrecognised to now one I keep a stern eye on to one of my favourite producers in the game right now, this one is bound to be the definition of ‘greatness’. All you have to do is press play. So let’s talk about it!

This is the brand-new album by MC OcBully and Producer Tremendiss, and together they drop this 8-track, 19-minute extravaganza that features

-Oun-P

-Borirock

With just two features and a dynamic duo that is ready to shake the world up, we have this record. Starting with the production aspect, we have Tremendiss going back into his supreme bag of gems and pulls out another flawless score. The thing with Tremendiss is that he can use the most bare of layers and create cinema. He’s incorporated this technique throughout all of his releases, whether we talk -ZING LANGUAGE to -Blue Tears and everything in between.

A man who is constantly showing off his ability to turn minimal to masterpiece, and on this occasion, he adds another W to his scoreboard because across the entirety of the 8 songs, we hear him take a classy spin on the boom-bap Coke wave subgenre, with each instrumental sounding precise and magnificent in execution.

Whether you want to discuss the track -Organic Ragu, where it begins with those sharp, distorted chord progressions that begin subtle but slowly creep to the forefront and later incorporate Stella drums, a second layer of distorted and rhythmic chords that loop around the track.

The big surprise on this one is what sounds like some shredding and abrasive guitar strings that engulf the track for a relative stretch on the track!

Another track to point out is -Tiramisu, which might be the clearest example of his minimalist approach turning to gold. This one consists of this vaguely haunting vocal harmony on constant loop with some sadistic bass chords and some slow and methodically charged drums!

Again, on paper it doesn’t sound like much, but in the hands of Tremendiss? It becomes a hit single.

There’s obviously the lead single -Sweetest Aroma, which dropped a while back and gave us all a tease into what we could expect with more looped vocals and methodical chords and some distinct notes in the background! Of course, Bori closing the track off in that WAVY finale!

I remember hearing that Chris Rock once said ‘If Prince and Michael Jackson’ were stranded on a desert island, Prince could still make Purple Rain,  but MJ couldn’t make Thriller’ in the same vein. If you left Tremendiss in the middle of the desert with nothing but stones and sticks, he would come out with your new favourite soundtrack!

To discuss OcBully, it is an exciting moment for me. Why? A: Because outside of the single, I haven’t heard of him, and B: I’m curious to see how he would perform under a full-length under his belt, and let’s just say he absolutely killed it! What makes this performance unique from others is his conviction and ability to weave words together.

His brand of street poetry is at a grand author’s scale. He makes every word, breath, letter, and sentence feel important. On top of that, he has the passion to bring his lyrics to life and the wavy aura to amplify the said bars.

Across this entire tape, we hear a man who is somehow both calm and composed as well as powerful and direct. He’s making sure the world and the audience feel his remarks and his intentions through his words, and that makes him such a great storyteller!

I love how he utilises the minimal production to his advantage. He uses the atmosphere of the instrumentals to push his own verbal narratives to higher levels. He’s deciding to synchronise his voice and the beats into this harmonious rhythm and tone that makes this one feel divine in its rollout!

Of course there’s the case of the two features who put their best foot forward and drops two savage verses that match the unrivalled energy Oc has manifested across the 19 minutes and I love that they kept it a small roster of features to further increase the power of their performances!

This should be a no brainer. If you’re a supporter of the underground and the culture then you should know these two represent both. Go click the link below and experience it for yourself!
