Let’s start with the lyricist part of things. We hear these men possessed with the spirit of the underground. From the focus on strong lyricism to the mature themes, verbal craft building, and ultimately the ability to manipulate the beat in their wordplay favour, all four men have those skills in spades.
What I appreciate about everyone involved is the fact they all complement each other and help emphasise and elevate the track while simultaneously bringing their own unique and distinctive qualities and performances that help each man stand out!
There’s something special about hearing four different MC’s being able to not only blend well but almost read each other’s minds in terms of cadence, rhythm, and movement in their respective verses. They sound like brothers who have been together all along and would make one hell of a super group if they were together! We’ve heard B1 link with Young Reese, and we saw how that turns out, and now we see his ability to bring more people together for another fantastic track!
Speaking of fantastic, we have the production by B1 himself. He’s not called ‘The Architect’ for no reason, and on this occasion, he somehow outdoes his spectacular rap verse with an even greater instrumental that outdoes all expectations and lets explain why!
So, on this beat, we hear a combination of these sharp, looping violin strings that have this amazing fading in and out effect across the beats. On top of that, we have these lingering piano keys, thick yet somehow smooth bass, and these rhythmic drums.
Now, what’s impressive about this beat is the fact that it has this infinite loop effect. Sometimes, a producer is talented enough to make a beat that’s able to hypothetically play forever without a break, and that’s one of those!
Each element gives this song a beautiful nuance to it that feels both powerful and atmospheric and helps provide a level of harmony and clarity to the verses performing on top of it! Also, can’t forget DJ K-Flip’s old-school influence with those closing cuts that give that extra layer of sonic texture across the beat! Sometimes, you just need something small to make all the difference!
