Now this is an album I was told about a year ago! Even before I started my website my main man Brutus who use to run ‘Raw Side Hip Hop’ let me know about it before the artist reached out. I feel it’s finally time to give this album the write up it deserves and prove that some albums (even in the modern day) does stand the test of time!
This is the 2025 album by MC -Jafet Muzic and Producer -Dr G with the only featured name being -Dj TMD we’ve got 10 tracks, 1 remix track and 31 minutes of pure Hip-Hop energy that proves why the underground is the premier location for the most authentic music!
I want to discuss the production aspect first because my god does Dr G deliver on this album! He’s a genius with a sharp ear who was able to craft instrumentals that balanced both a smooth and theatrical environment but also the vocals and studio cadence of Jafet for the ideal combination of incorporated elements for this album to thrive on!
Let’s take the opening track for example -Echoes In My Mind which starts off with that powerful spoken word message on the meaning behind the album title ‘Death To Rebirth’ with what I’d consider some ‘G Funk’ inspired tweaking chords and delicate piano chords that wrap around the song alongside some chipmunk vocal snippets that later advance into this full fledged track that introduce those heavy drums and rhythmic bass lines!
There’s the track -NWA (Never Worry Again) which has one of the more surreal atmospheres on the whole album! This one has some sporadic keys combined with some methodical chords and droning drum work that is amplified by various use of environment sounds like police sirens for the intensity!
I love how if you really keep an ear out you can hear some light strings in the midst of all this noise for some added texture!
The song -Heavenly Father was another favourite of mine due to it’s soothing nature. The first thing you’ll notice is those piano keys that are the MVP of the track as they lusciously move across the instrumental and are accompanied by some minimal drums, light horn work and some subtle strings to bring this angelic track to life in the most intimate way possible! Definitely a stand out!
As far as the lyricist goes I’d describe Jafet as a purist. The type of rapper that your favourite MC’s would respect and show love to. Why? Because his technique and performances are ingrained in professionalism, strong lyricism and being a student of the game!
You can tell he studied the 80’s and 90’s to incorporate the same trademark rhythms, importance of a strong pen game and an original presence to create an elaborate listening experience on the album!
He never misses a beat, always lands his bars exactly when and where it’s intended. He fluctuates between personalised themes and talking his shit. Somehow without sounding arrogant or brash he just sounds like a man preaching his truth in a rhyming Hip-Hop fashion and his passion and conviction are 100% heartfelt! You can tell he put care and investment into each verse he dropped and not the type to just throw random words for the sake of it!
I also adore the fact there are no features on the mic with him. When you’re this talented and original you run the risk of messing up your vibe with potentially someone who doesn’t match! But that’s not something to worry about on this record as he showcases his supreme skill across the entire 31-minute length!
Almost 3 years old already and it more than holds up today! The chemistry between Jafet and Dr G is phenomenal with the album flowing as smoothly as you can ask for! Shoutout to -DJ TMB for his contributions!
