Some artists have the unrivalled ability to turn any project they create into a storybook experience, this man is one of them. I’ve heard him utilise many different faces and styles across his career and yet (without sounding like recency bias) this might be my favourite version of him. Let’s talk about it!

This is the brand new EP by MC/Producer -Wst. Taylor with 5 tracks and one feature in the form of -Dani Chicano

And I can’t even front, this score was the definition of ‘divine’ with only 5 tracks Wst was able to create this dream like atmosphere with Jazz being the main focus across all instrumentals and each track blends into the other in seamless fashion.
From the opening ‘sintro ’ track with the combined forces of that harrowing shooting news snippet and groovy Soul-Jazz it makes for a compelling fusion of both the ‘beautiful music’ and the ‘heartbreaking reality of the gun violence’ and when that was all put together it made for a interlude that really set the tone for the rest of the experience that is just as ‘if not better’ then that opening segment!

We continue on and hear tracks like -MONDAY’ which again utilises that fever dream sonic aroma of light and delicate piano keys, with those subtle bass strings, methodically paced drum work and that sharp synth in the background that doesn’t break the entire time! Listening to this on a bright sunny day will cure your soul and depression! It’s that fucking powerful!
I love how the song closes with those piano key melody!

On the track -HEADLESS we get a bit more surreal with the instrumentation as we hear what sounds like a mind bending flute sample run throughout the song with more stripped back drums and what I could of sworn was a harp in the distance! We also advance to hear some gorgeous Jazz Horns that work hand in hand with those lush keys!
Honestly all I felt like doing while listening to this one was closing my eyes and day dreaming! It’s absolutely immaculate!

On the track -NAKED GUN we hear what sounds like a sequel specifically to that last track as the opening chords sound similar but the difference is a more intense Jazz horns! This one is right in the forefront and is paired with a more frantic, orchestral piano keys that sync perfectly with those contrasting mellow allocated drums and bass strings! Again what an experience! I’d argue this might be my new favourite soundtrack of 2026!

We have the final track -80 IN NOVEMBER with arguably the most ‘Hip-Hop’ flavoured track on the whole record! For the first time on the album we have what sounds like some slick 808 beats that morph along side some deep keys that remind me of Miles Davis on his ‘A Kind Of Blue’ record!
This one has a more emotionally heavy Jazz Horn execution with these sombre drums and hypnotic keys that are more in the subtle background then any other track! A rather unique closer to an otherwise cinematic experience!
This is the track we hear the verse of -Dani that nailed a Stellar closing verse!

Again Wst is one of those guys that never follows a single path, he’s anywhere and everywhere. From traditional Hip-Hop to melodically charged singing songs to ambient experimental records to now a ridiculous Jazz record! There isn’t a single lane he can’t conquer and today might have been his greatest victory yet!

His first words on the EP says it best ‘everything I’m in I’m clean!’ And that in one sentence sums up his brilliance! What makes him standout is the fact he can be both smooth and mellow and also vivid and descriptive in the way he talks about his life, his upbringing, his personal culture and his thoughts!
He’s giving us a deep dive into his own mind and making it sound like a theatrical masterpiece in the process. From his free lance delivery which breaks that ‘trademark’ standard and goes on a more ‘splash’ route where he decides when and where to drop
His bars!

Pair that with a sharp yet laid back flow, a strong sense of introspective penmanship and sense of self that makes his natural charisma and slick enunciations sound that much stronger! He has a writers mentality under the mantle of a rapper in the same way book writers can create tension, joy, sadness or anger depending on how they write same can be said for how Wst formulates his verses!

Did I mention all this is happening under a 5 track EP? Doing what most couldn’t do in a full length record he’s doing it in 5! Also the lack of features is also a positive that most should take a lesson from! When having only one it makes the feature verses that much stronger and memorable as we see on here!

This is not an album you can afford to sleep on! Believe you me this might be the most beautiful score you’ll hear across the year. Go check it out now!
