Stone And Robert: The Next Day

The further I go into the discovery of this camp the more creative outlooks I find. What started out as some traditional style hip hop drops has evolved into a series of interesting pieces of music with some hitting harder than others! And now back with this new offering it’s time to see what they hitting on next! This is the brand new album by MC’s Mr Ripley ‘Stone’ and Zulu #7 ‘Robert’ with production from Self Taught and features from -Isis Aset -BEE Danger -Mean Mo -Sirius B -Street Da Villain And this one reads like a 80’s B Side Action Kung Fu Flick! Even from the start with that mere 6 second intro that sets up the fun, action packed soundtrack that is to come. Blending in the worlds of cinema and Hip Hop together in a smooth, Jazzy and theatrical fashion! I loved hearing tracks like -93,000,000 Miles Away. Although there’s a lot of talking and snippets and it is only short the Jazz instrumentation made me feel like I was listening to a cut from -A Tribe Called Quest! Those lush keys and drum rhythms come together in such a gorgeous sonic harmony that it made a high point on the album (Which is crazy as I don’t normally fuck with skits) What I found interesting was the track -The Sun Shine. Because it sounds faintly like the beat from the skit previously was subtly flipped and distorted in the background! This one also has this crazily toned vocal loop that takes over the track alongside some heavy drums and thick bass! Quite a in your face instrumental with a ridiculous verse by Isis! The song -Channeling P has a low key haunting vibe to it with those long elevated piano keys combined with that rock and roll style drum work and more heavy bass. This has a slight eerie sound that makes this more of an intense listen than others! There’s also these vocal work scattered throughout the song! From spoken word snippets to shouting lines! A mix and match of all types! I’d say the actual partnership went hard on this record! The two men playing their respective cinematic roles had enough potential and solid chemistry to make this record work. They feed off each other and make for a compelling album experience that you’d except from a top tier duo! The main concept being (well at least to me) a film based narrative is smart for this context because you give the main characters (Stone And Robert’ proper incentive to play into the roles, give off dope performances and give the audience something to remember. One guy starts off setting up the stage and the other gets ready for the closer! Both men with their own versatility, cadences and individual charismas help emphasis each track they rap on! Of course we can’t forget the supporting case that drive home the feature slots. Each new MC adds an extra layer of atmosphere and variety to the track that feels strong, powerful and complex! My favourite feature of the whole album has to go to Isis! Absolutely incredible! So, grab your favourite popcorn, snacks and drink.
