If there’s one word I would use to describe this man it would be ‘Cinematic’ from the first project I heard of his with ‘LYNN TO MILAN’ which changed the game for me to everything since he’s brought back the ‘Larger than life’ atmosphere to the music and this new one might have surpassed even those! So let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album by MC -DatKidBravo with Production credits from -RHL Records -Korza -lynchvillian -BONEWESO -Soushi -The Hermit -Comma Uno -Wav.Lord -Soul La Flare And Features from -Nyeusi Loe -BlueHillBill -??? -Al Divino -Kil The Artist And this is now the second album I’ve heard that was a result of that Divino Japan tour! The creative flow is overwhelming to say the least from that venture and we are getting some of the best music from the artists involved! Legit the first thing I said to DatKid himself while listening to this album is how I loved the vast amount of Soul vocal samples scattered throughout the album! The entire vibe of the record is rather smooth and light (at least in comparison to his other stuff so far) he’s bringing a more refined yet masterful take on the underground hip hop soundscape and that comes with a collection of addictive songs that will live in your head rent free for months at a time! Let’s take tracks like the opener -Pick You Up and this where that vocal samples start! This whole track features the first of many beautiful voice snippets that sit at the forefront of the track! Alongside some minimal drum work, eccentric keys and groovy strings that makes this feel like the late 70’s was captured into one instrumental! Truly sensational We have the track -This Prada Ain’t For Sale which has one of the most lively and fresh Jazz instrumentals I’ve ever heard! What makes this track interesting is that the Jazz elements feel live and played in the room with DatKid! There’s an initial loop that later evolves into it’s own unique rhythms and melodies that made me smile ear to ear due to it’s organic feel! These are accompanied by some more subtle drums and hypnotic bass lines! A true masterpiece of a track that will stay in my rotation no doubt! We even have tracks like -FLY SHIT which is exactly as the name describes it’s fucking FLY! Again with the overwhelming Jazz influence this one is a relaxing audio massage to the ears! You’ve got the initial Jazz horn loop that later evolves into a heavier crescendo pop that gives you chills! This one has some droning drums and some subtle yet powerful bass that blends in with the rest of the track! I do love how lively the drums are (as droning as they are) When we discuss the rapping parts we have to talk about DatKid and his transition into a more matured and experienced version of himself. We’ve heard him create some of the biggest records of the last few years and now he’s using those lessons to evolve himself into what I’d say is his best self. This version is solid, direct, clear with his pronunciations, graphic, detailed, charismatic and eccentric all in one! On this album he’s found a way to practically infuse his words and performances with the instrumentals themselves! They aren’t seperate anymore. You may as well consider his voice an instrument the way it’s morphed into the music, I legit was listening to this album in absolute bliss and had to remind myself this for review sake and always make a conscious effort to seperate the voice from the beats! That’s how intertwined they are! That’s not even mentioning the features because holy shit do we have something MVP’s on here! From the ever evolving and styling Nyeusi who kills any spot he’s on to the human acrobatics himself BlueHillBill to the intense and direct Divino, the lyrical gymnastics of ??? And the ever so surreal and compelling wordplay of Kil The Artist! All these men nailed their respective roles in this album and as we’ve seen from past albums show the utmost respect and chemistry to DatKid and his work! Going into this latest I didn’t know what to expect, what direction he was going to take us in next but this is some next level Oscar worthy shit! DatKid has proven once again why he’s one of the strongest artists in the game right now and this is another MUST LISTEN!
