Remember back in 2016 when Kendrick dropped ‘untitled, Unmastered’ and we didn’t know just how dope a collection of demos and unreleased music could sound? And how big of a revelation that was!
Well this is the underground equivalent of that. A man who has gone in the game severely underrated and now is showing the world what he’s capable of with his left over shit! Let’s go!
This is the brand new Demo Volume by MC and Umbrella Collective MC -Mvck Nyce and on this one he brings production from
-Goodphella
-Boom Bap Benny and without sounding like recency bias this one feels the most intense, passionate and raw I’ve heard Mvcr period! Who knows how long ago these songs were recorded but it stunned me how any of these tracks were left on the table because they all SLAP!
Whether your talking about tracks like -Jail Calls which features a combination of those rich and electric guitar strings attached with those soulful vocal loops, light and subtle bass with some hypnotic drums that wrap this whole track together!
I love how there’s two different layers of vocals! One is a chipmunk-sounding female loop while the other is a man’s choir style voice! Such a dope track!
Hell, let’s talk about that intro track! -Say less this is the one that sets up the album! This one has those distinctive abrasive chords that attack the track in 10-second intervals! As well as minimal drum work with some delicate piano keys and some thick bass that absorbs the other instrumentation, it creates a mesmerising listen! One of the more stripped-back instrumentals but man does it HIT!
The song -Motown 25 has one of the smoothest rhythms on the album! From those lively and jazz form piano keys that work together with those shrieking synth chords in the background that has a type of echoing effect!
We have some trademark plucked bass to give a surreal effect to the song! This has an underlying Jazz instrumental feel to it, something I’d expect Herbie Hancock create!
See, when it comes to my assumptions on the ideas the artist has when making the album I like to keep that to myself and guess instead of reaching out to the artists, why? I consider that cheating (unless they tell me themselves the theme) and so I like to make my own guesses
In this one I feel like MVCK wasn’t content with just dropping a random demo for release sake but instead put in lots of time and care to make sure the tracks featured pop, were as electric and sound properly crafted to make sure the audience wasn’t hearing this as a ‘demo’ but a full fledged record because that’s what It sounds like to me!
MVCK hasn’t sounded better, from his infectious vocal performances to his rich and street-smart lines like ‘before I sell you anything, I gotta see you take it’ love that line! Or ‘Talk is cheap, but I charge when I speak at least a band’ this is the kind of shit he’s on that he’s reppin and it sounds marvellous!
He’s on top of his game, deadly sharp wordplay, extensive penmanship, a swagger unmatched and a rhythm most could only dream of!
The fact that he can enable this level of skill not only over a demo tape but with no features? Is insane. It was 2024 we got his last album on DSP and 2025 on Bandcamp and still he’s rocking his strong presence with only 8 throwaway tracks that sound better than most of the competition’s full albums!
So come with me, donate the $10 minimum to support this man and his incredible work! No excuse. It cost you more for that takeaway lunch! $10 support your man and let’s pump this album up!
