The more I listen to music from this MC, the happier I am that he stays with one producer! I’m unapologetic loud about my bias towards the formula of ‘one rapper to one producer’ and this man and Koba live that formula to a tee! So let’s talk about it! This is the brand new single by MC -Maurice and Producer -Koba Dera and the two come back heavy with a two minute and 34 second track that is every bit as fire as they have been up to this point with no need for a feature! Let’s start with the MC work. I swear with each song I hear of Maurice and his deep toned voice the harder he sounds! He always brings with him this savagery alongside his performances! This methodically paced vocal work that you can’t help but mean mug when you hear it! On this song specially he lets the beat breathe a few times as he just stops rapping abruptly with no chorus just the beauty of that instrumental in your ear until he decided to drop his second verse! It’s awesome that’s he’s able to utilise the art of patience. I’ll scream this till my lungs collapse ‘this is something every artist should learn to use!’ Being able to rap slower, let your words sink in properly and have a stronger effect on the listener as well as giving the beat your on the opportunity to shine and on this track both are done! Strong intense lyricism, heavy vocals and rapping like he has all the time in the world. Truly a stellar performance! Now onto the beats side of things we have Koba. This man has built chemistry with Maurice in a way no one else has because he’s the only cat I’ve seen work with him under this new alias! Across this instrumental we hear this haunting demonstration of dark chord progressions combined with those sharp strings and what sounds like a free form flute sample going off in the background! I love that droning and eerie chord in the Centre of the track that causes your brain to go back to reset mode! This song also has some surreal drum work paired with some uncomfortable atmosphere that makes this one of those instrumentals that you wouldn’t want to hear until you saw the sun in the morning! If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from Koba is that he has the ability to dive into those darker, menacing vibes and create this darkly instrumentals that feel both powerful and mysterious all in one (as this one is doing right now) Another strong pairing between the two artists. They have impeccable chemistry and a dynamic that most couldn’t reach if they tried. Engulfing lyricism and chaotic music combine that and you get a track too dope to sleep on!
